“A lot was made about Steve Jobs’ perceived obsession with beating Google,” Richard Saintvilus writes for TheStreet. “Legend suggests that the deceased Apple founder said he would go ‘thermonuclear’ to describe the lengths to which his hatred for Google ran — particularly as it relates to Android, which Jobs described as a ‘stolen product.'”
“But what Jobs has said pales in comparison to what former Samsung America CEO Dale Sohn once said that beating Apple is no longer merely an objective, it is Samsung’s survival strategy,” Saintvilus writes. “That sort of obsession that may ultimately be Samsung’s downfall. The company, which has risen to prominence by ‘drawing inspiration’ (I won’t say copy) from Apple’s design, is now battling a ghost, which is itself.”
“Meanwhile, Apple’s iPhone 6 is expected to take a significant chunk out of Samsung’s sales. Finally acknowledging the demand for a bigger phone, Apple’s management has dropped hints that the bigger phone is coming,” Saintvilus writes. “With Samsung’s mobile revenue already declining, that spells trouble for Samsung.”

MacDailyNews Take: Anything that spells trouble for slimebucket Samsung is more than okay with us!

– He won’t say “copy?” Whatsamatter….the truth too hard to spit out?
They will RUE they day they started copying Apple!
Revenge is a dish best served with a larger iPhone. Oh the Shamstung market share humanity!
Samsung America CEO Dale Sohn, is he black ?
What the fuck has his race got to do with anything?
Jackass.
Dickhead!
OK, forgetting the patent issues “They will RUE they day they started copying Apple!” may be WRONG! Simply wrong!
Samsung has taken iPhone features and done a Yugo on the Corvette by scrimping everything down and making the lower cost phone hoping they can get mega-sales and make up for the lower prices they charge.
Samsung is obviously not going to make money off their higher-end smartphones, what with Apple’s gains in their market & likely gains with the next models.
I think Samsung’s approach, including its $10B/yr marketing blitz is a failure.
Innovate or die. The only choices I see.
“including its $10B/yr marketing blitz is a failure”
I think the problem with this type of strategy is that user satisfaction is usually overlooked in favor of grabbing first time sales. This works in the short term, but the affects will be felt in the long term as those people begin to abandon your products for something better. (Or even worse, those users are so completely dissatisfied, they decide they might as well get a cheaper phone.)
Samsung is a consumer electronics company and has always dealt with fickle consumers continuing to want something new and different. Their business is based on selling physical devices and new and improved features.
Apple is a platform company that understands and focuses on long term commitment. Their business model is based on the experience of using their products.
“including its $10B/yr marketing blitz is a failure”
…except that it’s not really “marketing” but sales promotion, a different thing completely, and the reason their huge expenditure is getting such lukewarm results. If Samsung really understood the difference, they would be creating their own products instead of slavishly copying Apple’s.
Don’t forget that they’re getting chewed up at the low end by the Chinese manufacturer’s, too.
Squeeze play
What “hints” has Apple management dropped? All I see are crappy “leaks” from case manufacturers. Legitimize a shitty leak from an unreliable source by attributing it to a “management hint”. Either way there are no contacts for sources, no way to fact check, no way for the “journalist” to lose. His entire article is rehashed click-bait, nothing new to see.
I have very little doubt the bigger phone is coming, I would imagine Apple has been working on it for years (long before samsung ever heard of a smartphone).
you can say copied!
Scamsum’s days are numbered. As we speak, Generals Cook & Ive are raising a massive army strong enough to defeat the South Korean menace in every corner of the globe. From New York to Beijing, the iPhone 6 will storm the world’s shores and leave a trove of broken big Droidy screens in its plundering wake.
What buffoons:
former Samsung America CEO Dale Sohn once said that beating Apple is no longer merely an objective, it is Samsung’s survival strategy
Right. So you KILL your source of IP for your ‘survival’?
No. You kill your source of IP for your SUICIDE.
OMG Samsung is so lost and stupid.
Yes, I botched a closing bold tag. But it kind of works!
Oh and Samsung:
You are soooo screwed.
And look! You’re doing it to yourself! You’re so smart.
Goodbye.
Thank you, Currie Derek, for compliment. We am so ‘mart.
Hello.
Bizarro Samcopy
To be accurate, Samcopy, I called you SUICIDAL, not bizarro. A definitions of bizarro would be when someone wants to break into the new e- watch market, but instead releases a butt ugly brick-on-a-wrist POS tethered to a phone that defines the exact WRONG way to break into that market. Damn, that’s bizarro! Too much lead in the water.
oh, I think their fight will bring the best products for users. Thanks for the interesting article
I would say COPY, that’s all that Samsung knows. When they put out there own product, it is a piece of crap. Example there dumb watch. Now they are going to announce some kind of health related crap before WWDC. That should get little or no press before Apple crushes there announcements with its own that will make there stuff look even more like the crap it is already.
