Apple granted surprising patent for an ‘iWatch’-like device

“Apple has been granted a patent today for their invention relating to electronic device assemblies. Apple’s patent application was concealed from the public and this is the first time that we’re seeing this invention,” Jack Purcher reports for Patently Apple.

“Apple states that the electronic device that they illustrate may be a laptop computer, a tablet computer, a somewhat smaller device such as a wrist-watch device, pendant device, headphone device, earpiece device, or other wearable or miniature device, a cellular telephone, or a media player,” Purcher reports. “As generic as that description is, the fact remains that Apple is not only illustrating a new form factor, they’re describing all-new components to support a new device form factor that looks like an iWatch-like device.”

Purcher reports, “In Apple’s patent FIG. 1, Apple’s iWatch-like device could support capacitive touch electrodes or may be a display that is not touch sensitive. Display 14 may include image pixels formed from light-emitting diodes (LEDs), organic LEDs (OLEDs), plasma cells, electrowetting pixels, electrophoretic pixels, liquid crystal display (LCD) components, or other suitable image pixel structures.”

  1. Like the report says, it’s not about the design as much as it’s about the concept and parts that will go into some form of a wearable computer like an iWatch. It confirms that the project is very much alive at some level. Go Apple

  2. I love it “a somewhat smaller device such as a wrist-watch device, pendant device, headphone device, earpiece device, or other wearable or miniature device, a cellular telephone, or a media player,”

sounds like iWear to me. Glad someone at Apple’s figured that out and listened to me. Either that or great minds think alike.

    I await the release.

      1. Hey, I appreciate the humor. I’ve stated the idea on line well before anyone else has. If the iWatch does come to fruition fine, if it comes as an iWear that takes the world by surprise I’ll be quite content. Let’s just say it wouldn’t be the first time.

Oh, and Apple does pay me in a way. I get a nice dividend check on a regular basis. They have been a great company and I’ve been using their products services and I am a very happy stock holder, even during the plunge from $700 to $500. Never bothered me one bit.

G4Dualie, it’s a pleasure reading your posts by the way. Quite often puts a smile on my face.
