Apple has filed an “SEC Form 8K alerting the commission that those 9 million [iPhone 5c and 5] sales represents a material change in the company’s prospects for its fiscal fourth quarter, which ends Saturday,” Philip Elmer-DeWitt reports for Fortune.
“‘Apple expects total company revenue for the fourth fiscal quarter to be near the high end of the previously provided range of $34 billion to $37 billion,’ the company wrote, ‘and expects gross margin to be near the high end of the previously provided range of 36% to 37%,'” P.E.D. reports.

Impressive numbers. Actually unreal how many billions Apple brings in. Truly a successful company by any standard.
Boom !
But Apple is not innovating … the 5S basically looks like the 5 … Our Androids look different …
If it ain’t broke don’t fix it
Chancing the outline, thickness, length, heithg and thickness or any like measurement is no mor innovation than changing thr tread of a radial tire. Creation of the radial tire was TRUE innovation.
And, Apple is very constant on keeping a design for two years and it’s not innovation, but some of the changes on the phone are innovation. Is it not a wonder that Google has finally decided to distance itself from Android.
Odd that on the date the 5S was released, I called a friend of mine at home who works at the Houston FLAGSHIP STORE, and less than 2 doz. Android phones of any brand were sold and he could not reveal the numbers of the 5C and more importantly, the 5S sold until the supply was gone. They were finished by 10-11 am. Never, when and Brand of Android phone creates such fervor. In fact, he wagered that if all brands of Android phones came out, all with each companies phones at all Telcos would neither run out of phones, but would not create the fervor that one iPhone, much less than two, even a few days between their release dates, would the excitement be the same.
Just think, had Apple allotted the same capacity at each Telco etc, the numbers for the 5S alone could have been double.
RIM was just sold for 4.7 billion
It’s true. They just went private for above mentioned price. Interesting times.
many but not all android users have shut up this past weekend , a welcome change
They are steamed but have few real talking points written up as yet.
They still will talk saying the usual “Android is better because it is open and cheaper and has more variety and they had colours way back when and . .
BOOYAAAAHHHHHH!!!
GO AWAY !!
NEVER COME BACK!
@ nutty
never mind darlin’, just go back to sleep.
So that’s probably $3.75 billion in sales in a single weekend.
Not bad considering it wasn’t anything like a global launch.
More like 5.4 billion. 9 million times $600?
Would you be willing to up that sales figure a bit? I’m thinking 9M * $600 = $5.4B.
The point really being that Blackberry just sold itself for less than Apple sold in iPhones in three days……….
wow. really puts things into perspective
RIP RIM
To both of you, I took the average value as reported in the last quarter and downgraded it to take account of the 5c’s lower price points.
You could well be right and I’m wrong, but – because there’s only a week or so till the end of the quarter – we’ll never know the reality.
I definitely appreciate your sentiment about that. I can’t bring myself to care about a 25-cent refund on a book from the settlement of their collusion lawsuit, as much as I care about the government behaving like a buttinsky.
I prefer to think of the iBooks thing slightly more dramatically, as the DOJ consisting of cult worshipers of Amazon, paying secret tribute to Jeff Bezos in underground temples by night, then assaulting Apple by day to punish it for daring to compete with the one true online marketing god.
I’d have thought nutty’s & my replies more provocative than BLN’s vanished comment. More’s the pity
