Apple expected to ship up to 65 million iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c units this year

“Shipments of panels used in Apple’s new iPhone 5s are expected to reach between 10-15 million units in the third quarter of 2013, with Sharp expected to be responsible for seven million units, according to industry sources,” Rebecca Kuo and Alex Wolfgram report for DigiTimes.

  1. DigiTimes is a tabloid, so it has not credibility whatsoever.

65 million of iPhone 5C and 5S is an overestimation. The more so iPhone 4S will be about 20-30% of all iPhones sold anyway, which would mean that total iPhone sales according DigiTimes are going to be 76-85 million in just over three months period.

Such an increase over last year is improbable. In similar time terms Apple sold about 53 million iPhones. Sales increase YoY is possible and even expected (despite market saturation issues and the economy), but the increase hardly will be that big.

    1. I am not a DigiTimes fan and I am not supporting their “analysis.” But I think that the 5s and 5c could sell big, very big. The 5s is going to inspire riots if Apple cannot supply enough of them, and the 5c and 4s will be quite attractive to some people trying to save a few bucks.

      1. If C-model would come as lower-end instead of iPhone 4S — what would be possible if it had its innards, rather than more costly ones from iPhone 5 — and its minimum price would start from $299 rather than $399, then such a bold increase would be possible.

But now the growth would be just because of novelty and adding colours, as well as increase of cell operators in some countries.

  2. Although, I’m sure both models of the iPhone 5 will sell in the tens of millions, I’m rather certain it won’t be enough to please Wall Street if Samsung is able to sell more than whatever Apple does. Smartphone domination has become a market share race of Apple pitted against the entire spectrum of Android manufacturers. If Samsung sells more smartphones than Apple over the next couple of quarters, it will be seen as a monumental failure on Apple’s part.

  3. 65 million? That is similar to the amount of years since the dinosaurs became extinct. Microsoft, tech’s dinosaur, is about to become extinct by Apple. Coincidence? I Think NOT!
