Apple’s iOS dominates U.S. mobile browsing with 65% share

“Apple’s iOS has widened its lead over Google’s Android in terms of mobile Web traffic share in the U.S., reaching 65 percent of the market, according to new data,” Neil Hughes reports for AppleInsider.

“Quantcast and investment firm Piper Jaffray have been tracking 1 billion monthly page views from around the Internet,” Hughes reports. “Their latest data released on Friday shows Apple’s iOS grew from a 61 percent share in late June to 65 percent at the end of August… Android went from 28 percent at the end of June to 30 percent in late August.”

Hughes reports, “The data released Friday is just the latest to demonstrate that iPhone owners are more active and more engaged with their devices than users of other mobile platforms. The iPad is even more prevalent, accounting for 84 percent of Web traffic from tablets — a fact cited by Apple Chief Executive Tim Cook earlier this year.”

    1. Developers and advertisers care; we know that people actually use iOS devices. Plus, with Google saying Android isn’t essential and making little if any money from it, they may start phasing it out in favor of some phone version of Chromium or some other thing. iOS clearly has users, support, and a future.

    2. Dopey post anonymous coward ‘Law Raymond’.

Here’s why I care: I champion SUPERIOR TECHNOLOGY. I don’t care who invents it. That’s where I don’t care. But I CHEER that the superior technology IS DOMINATING, as it damned well should.

So you don’t care yourself into a corner of stupidity and laziness and enjoy yourself. I’ll continue to champion PROGRESS in technology and care about it.

    1. No. Wall Street says any tablet costing over $150 is overpriced and Apple will be forced out of the tablet business by 2014. A tablet is a now considered a commodity like a toaster or a blender.

  1. But… but… but… Google is activating millions of Android devices every day. What’s it now? A billion Android devices and counting. Soon to be two billion by New Year’s Day. Why is hardly anyone browsing with those 5″ display Android smartphones? Browsing is what those large-display Android smartphones are specifically made for.
