BlackBerry says mystery buyer ordered a million Z10 phones

“Shares of BlackBerry rose more than eight percent on Wednesday after the company announced it has sold one million of its new smartphones to a mystery buyer,” The Canadian Press reports.

“The Waterloo, Ont.-based company said an “established partner” made the purchase, though a spokeswoman for the company said confidentiality reasons prevent it from revealing the identity,” CP reports. “The former Research In Motion said shipments of the phones will start immediately.”

Mystery solved: It’s Dr. Evil (a Canadian, no less).

One million sounds like a lot. It isn’t. For example, Apple sold 47.8 million iPhones in their last reported 90-day quarter. That’s over one million iPhone sold every 48 hours. And, don’t forget, Apple is currently oh-so-doomed, so what’s that make BlackBerry?

That’s right: Dead Company Walking – regardless of publicity stunts and “mystery buyers” and any other assorted bullshit they’ll try to pull before they finally go tits up.
