“BlackBerry will offer technology to separate and make secure both work and personal data on mobile devices powered by Google Inc’s Android platform and by Apple Inc’s iOS operating system, the company said on Thursday,” Euan Rocha reports for Reuters.
“The new feature could help BlackBerry sell high-margin services to enterprise clients even if many, or all, of their workers are using smartphones made by BlackBerry’s competitors,” Rocha reports. “That may be crucial for the company as it has lost a vast amount of market share to the iPhone and to Android devices.”
Rocha reports, “The new Secure Work Space feature will be available before the end of June, and will be managed through BlackBerry Enterprise Service 10, the platform that allows BlackBerry’s corporate and government clients to handle devices using different operating systems on their networks. BlackBerry said the feature fences off corporate email, calendar, contacts, tasks, memos, web browsing and document editing from personal apps and content, which could be less secure.”

Because the marketing driven group thinkers at BlackBerry are desperate and can’t drum any better hogwash.

This, to my eyes is the last act of a desperate company.
I think they are making a wise move. Though they had some widely reported global outages, I think they still have credit in the security arena. Maybe in the near future they’ll just-so-happen to sell phones.
I wish apple had the ability to have a separate work space feature!!! I work for the military and the lack of security features, such as CAC readers (I know there is a CAC for iPhone but it has not been AF approved to access your gov email) and creating a wall between work and personnel has kept the iPhone out of the DoD market signficantly. I would love to have a government iphone vs this POS blackberry!!!!

lots of people still trust blackberry…before apple came along blackberry built up a pretty solid reputation…this seems like a good move…in all honesty im rooting for rim.. i hope they succeed and start hiring more people again…lots of people lost their jobs when the iphone came along
