  1. I can see a scuff being self healed, but not a scratch. Wait, I take that back… If the molecule structure has an inherent need to realign itself end to end, then repair may in fact be possible. To some extent, the paint does not ever really dry, I’ll bet. Sorry about that, bong hit kicked in a little late

      1. I’m literally sitting on the can at work reading your post laughing out loud, spit came out of my mouth and landed all over my pants, and some dude walks into the restroom and is wondering what the hell is going on. Thanks…

  2. What an awesome marketing plan if the product actually works. Take a product that is designed for a high price point, make it accessible to a larger marketshare. If my iPhone case can repair itself then next time my car gets scratched or I’m in the market to buy a new one, I’ll be thinking about Nissan for sure. Brilliant.

  3. Interesting — but the case is a metal case – painted with a molecular nano-technology to repair scratches. Cool.

I can not see Nissan capitalizing sales such cases – they will need an agreement more then just cases to succeed – it needs to hit MASS production be effective. I do not think Apple will strike a deal here – offering too many colour options on products – always has a losing colour unsold.

    Why would anyone need this?
When a gel case is good enough or a careful person can wisely treat their iDevice with respect – I see no need. But COOL.

  4. The only thing about Nissan’s self healing paint coating is that it has to be exposed to sunlight for it to work. Makes perfect sense on a car, but not so much on a phone case. So does that mean if you get a scratch on your iPhone case you need to sit it on the windowsill and wait for the sun to help it do it’s thing?

A light scratch on a car will heal itself in a few hours if the car is left out in the sun – it will take weeks for it to happen on a case (if that soon) that spends most of it’s time indoors (or in a pocket).

It’s cool tech, but I’m not sure this application makes much sense.

Good way for Nissan to get its name splashed all over the news though.
