“Although Apple’s iPhone 4S was released less than three months ago, rumors are already circulating surrounding the next iteration of the device. Apple is going to release a redesigned next generation iPhone next year, according to a report from BGR,” Trefis reports for Forbes.
“Unlike the iPhone 4S, which was launched earlier this quarter without any major body changes, the next iPhone is said to boast a completely redesigned exterior,” Trefis reports. “The report says that the next iPhone will have an iPad-esque aluminum back joined to the glass iPhone face by a rubber or plastic bezel surrounding the front edge of the phone. Apple will look to maintain its usual one year gap between device launches and not delay it, as it could otherwise risk losing some customers to a fleet of Google’s Android smartphones released on time in the highly competitive market.”
Trefis reports, “While we take Apple-related rumors such as this with a grain of salt, this one is interesting due to its description of the supposed new device. We believe that the iPhone is due for a major redesign, as it will have been two years since the last redesign with the iPhone 4. Apple has been rolling out major body changes every two years since the iPhone 3G, and we expect that trend to continue with the next-generation device having a new external design, whatever that may be.”

AUTUMN?!!! Sigh!
You don’t. Say.
Figured iPhone Day would make a permanent move to fall. That’s a long ass wait.
Thankfully we have the iPad 3 to fill that huge iVoid in the meantime.
Really? Well no shit, Sherlock. Colour me surprised at this astonishing revelation. Apple are going to release a new iPhone a year after the last one.
What fucking genius worked that one out.
Are these idiots completely oblivious to Apple’s VERY consistent product release cycles? How do they maintain employment and be SO clueless?
The “released on time” part is a little lame.
Another braindead hitwhore journalist just woke up from an Xmas hangover with an epiphany!
We believe that the iPhone is due for a major redesign, as it will have been two years since the last redesign with the iPhone 4.
See, I hate this kind of thinking: “The iPhone needs a redesign because two years have passed.” No, if the iPhone needs a redesign it will be because Apple has hit upon a better way of doing things. Honestly, I can’t see much that needs fixing with the current version of the iPhone. If they could find a way to make it a little lighter that would be good, and anything that improves batter life or antenna performance would be good too, but as for physical shape and appearance there’s very little to complain about.
(Unless you’re a certain MDN regular who has a constant bug up his butt about the size of the iPhone’s screen.)
Apple is not Samsung or Motorola or HTC. They don’t feel the need to release umpteen differently shaped models a year just because they can.

With the kind of stupidity you have against change they should put you in charge of RIM.
You know, when I first came on MDN a little over a year ago, I looked forward to your posts. You had a great sense of humor, and I related to your status as a recent convert from the Evil Empire.
But over the past few months, I have really come to dread seeing your name attached to any post, because I know it will be filled with bile, contempt, and this sociopathic obsession with iPhone screen size. Or it will be a response to someone else’s criticism (at this point, richly deserved) of the same.
For Pete’s sake, BLN, grow the hell up and let it go already. Life is too short.
Ah, someone said it at last. And said it perfectly. Thank you.
Yikes
Dude you got served
