Former San Francisco mayor Willie Brown suggests Occupy movement target Apple

“Members of the Occupy protest movement should target companies like Apple, rather than protest at places like the docks in Oakland, California, says former San Francisco mayor Willie Brown,” MacNN reports.

“On Sunday the San Francisco Chronicle published an editorial by Brown, in which he accused the Occupy movement of hurting the 99 percent in the form of dock workers and truck drivers,” MacNN reports. “‘If the Occupy people really want to make a point about the 1 percent, then lay off Oakland and go for the real money down in Silicon Valley,’ the column reads.”

MacNN reports, “‘The folks who work on the docks in Oakland or drive the trucks in and out of the port are all part of the 99 percent. They take our goods from all over the state and export them,’ Brown continues. ‘The only thing those cats down at Apple are exporting are our jobs. Then they have the nerve to ask for tax breaks, and Washington obliges.'”

  1. On the manufacturing Job Situation:

Politicians Just say: “I’m going to raise money and start a factory and hire you all unemployed”

Occupy type prostestors Just say “I’m skilled and willing to work in your factory ”

    Just do that, otherwise STFU

  2. The Port of Oakland protesters were doing so in the trucker’s interest. Many of those drivers are independent contractors earning as little as $7 per hour.

Prior to the deregulation of the trucking industry in 1980, port truck drivers enjoyed a middle class standard of living. Today, big box retailers and steam ship lines are fueling a race to the bottom, forcing trucking companies to compete by undercutting each other and paying drivers less. Since deregulation, many trucking companies shifted employees to “independent contractor” status. The trucking companies now pass the cost of owning and maintaining trucks onto drivers and avoid paying payroll taxes, Social Security, Medicare and workers’ compensation. The result is a workforce that lives in poverty and does not have the resources to operate clean trucks.

  3. On this side we have Apple, one of the few companies to THRIVE during our ongoing worldwide economic depression.

On that side we have Willie Brown, yet-another dumbass politician without the ability to think on an intelligent level.

Right Willie. Bash on the biggest engine of creativity and productivity in the USA. Slick thinking there. Hey Willie! Did you ever notice all the corporations that sucked billions out of taxpayer’s pockets in bailouts then went and had a party with the money as well as raising the pay of the d*ckwads who caused the crash? Please sign up for a brain transplant.

  4. People like Willie Brown keep Occupiers scatterbrained all over the place! Stay focused on this everybody! 1% tax on every Wallstreet transaction! (which amounts to trillions of dollars!!) Tax the Banks! Nationalize or get rid of the Federal Reserve!

  5. ““‘The folks who work on the docks in Oakland or drive the trucks in and out of the port are all part of the 99 percent. They take our goods from all over the state and export them,’ Brown continues.”

The last time I checked, the imports through the ports of Oakland and Long Beach are about double of the amount of exports.

  6. I’m tired of the demonization of companies simply because they are successful. If they violate the law, punish them, but STOP this nonsense about success being equal with greed and corruption. There is plenty of that in government too. As for being the 99%, sorry protesters- anyone been to the third world? American protesters with laptops are in the 1% worldwide along with most of the country.

  7. Dear Stupid Mr. EX-Mayor, Where do you think all of those units that are assembled for Apple overseas go???? To US ports!!!! If it weren’t for Apple, many of those dock workers would be unemployed you nitwit!

And, If it weren’t for the fact that at least 3 previous congress’ had denied Apple’s pleas for a tax break so they could build manufacturing facilities here in the States and bring jobs home, there might have been thousands of more people working here & paying taxes. Oh, and just for the record…. the dock workers would still be employed, maybe even more so because those units would be going out of our docks, and there would be more going out than there are coming in right now. Get it right or shut your pie hole Mr. EX-Mayor!

  8. Why anyone would live in California is beyond me. Never trust a politician that threw his lot in with Reverend Jim Jones. Never trust a population that won’t leave because of the “great weather”.
