AT&T: Churn unaffected after Verizon and Sprint got Apple’s iPhone

“AT&T Inc.’s customers have remained loyal despite losing its exclusivity for selling the iPhone, the U.S. telecommunications company said Wednesday,” Christopher Lawton reports for MarketWatch.

“‘Churn has not moved at all,’ said Glen Lurie, president of emerging devices for AT&T,” Lawton reports. “Churn refers to the number of customers who cancel services.”

Lawton reports, “Lurie said the carrier’s relationship with Apple Inc. AAPL -0.07% , maker of the iPhone, has been positive, and they’ve had record-breaking sales of the latest iPhone 4S”

  1. I’m very happy with AT&T… and from what I have seen around here in NY, Verizon is no better or worse. It’s all subjective when it comes to service and pricing. I just hope that Sprint will help push down some of the prices for everyone…

  2. The thought of owning a modern smartphone on a bassackward 1980’s network, one that can’t even do such basic tasks as simultaneous voice and data, left me cold. There’s no way I could perform my job with Verizon, so the thought never crossed my mind to switch.

      1. And that is the biggest reason people stay, or leave.

Where I live, work, and play… AT&T smokes verizon. A few pockets around here Verizon works where AT&T does not, but I can say the same about both.

        The biggest reason is coverage.

I won’t leave cause I’d lose my unlimited data 😉
And that simultainious voice/net feature just kicks ass.

Verizon customer no-service… I can’t go there without swearing constantly.

  3. It’s not so much about my being loyal to AT&T as it’s about my being addicted to simultaneous data and voice. The day this feature is available on Verizon (via LTE?) I will be leaving AT&T. Their call reliability is terrible in the SOMA area of San Francisco.

  4. I think it’s all a matter of where you live. Friends in D.C. on ATT complain endlessly while there are here in New Orleans.

Look for the Churn to REALLY take affect at the point 2 years after the iPhone hit Verizon, when ATT contracts are up and there is no penalty to move leave Verizon for ATT…. I certainly will do so.

    1. If changing networks is the best thing you ever did, your life seems rather insipid.
On the other hand, since switching to Verizon would certainly cause me loss of business (and quite possibly the loss of my business), it’s a no go.
