“Zuckerberg, in an interview with Charlie Rose that’s due to air later today, discussed his interaction with Apple’s former CEO Jobs, who passed away Oct. 5,” Womack reports.

MDN Take: Actually, I think it was Apple’s Ping that screwed Apple’s Ping.
Mike
I think Ping and Google Plus were both too little, too late.
Considering that Ping was not actually intended to work the way it turned out — thanks to Facebook refusal to collaborate on sane terms — it is not fair to phrase it this way.
Ping is one of Apple’s worst product names.
You have to be a bit of a computer networking geek to understand what “Ping” means. Otherwise “ping” just means things like a name of someone in China or the sound of a peashooter shot.
@paul
The computer networking term “ping” comes from its analog counterpart in which a pulse of sound – a “ping” – is used in sonar technology to reflect off of, and identify the location of, another object.
On a submarine, you “ping” surrounding objects, bouncing sound off of them, to determine their locations.
That term was then incorporated, as a metaphor, into computer networking terminology.
Sure. Ping-ing actually means something, but 99% of iTunes users won’t know that. That’s why it’s a ludicrous name.
99% of iTunes users won’t know what “ping” means because we live in a world where all anyone cares about is what is right in front of their face. Facebook is the perfect name for the favorite pasttime in a society that is totally self-absorbed. What’s ludicrous is that no one cares about anything older than they are.
Although Ping is a great name for a duck…
Just makes me sick to hear that he actually helped Facebook and Google. Like feeding sharks.
Except that, in the world’s ecosystem, sharks are actually tremendously beneficial.
Google is more like the Candiru.

Do you think Steve Jobs actually helped him or his Zuckerberger just trying to ride Steve’s coat tails now that he’s gone?
Not only screwed up PING. Look at the FB app. It’s a POS. LOL
I’ve been to Facebook about a half dozen times. I just don’t get it. I fail to see it’s appeal.

I’m not big on Facebook either…now and then I do. Anyway, kids today sit for hours on end using Facebook.
It’s very important part of their lives for some reason. I’m glad it wasn’t around when I grew up. We actually went outside and played. Lol
I have mixed feelings about Steve helping suckerberg.
It is the right thing to do, mentor someone younger, but I can’t stand mark suckerberg. He is in the same place as eric the mole to me.
In the bio, Steve used the term “pinged me” or I “pinged” so and so.
I miss Steve! It’s all about the details…sigh
