USA Today: Apple’s iPhone 4S camera offers big improvement over iPhone 4

“The camera features of Apple’s new iPhone 4S are one of the two standouts that differentiate the new model, along with the voice-activated personal assistant, Siri,” Jefferson Graham reports for USA Today. “But are the pictures and videos so much better that they’d make you want to upgrade?”

“But are the pictures and videos so much better that they’d make you want to upgrade?” Graham reports. “They are substantially better, especially the video. Whether that’s worth investing in the iPhone 4S and a new service contract is up to you. It’s certainly a big improvement over what was already a pretty nice point-and-shoot camera in the iPhone 4.”

Graham reports, “Overall, the biggest improvement is in the video. The footage it captures looks crisper and sharper, thanks to the wider lens opening, improvements in the lens itself and image stabilization.”

      1. Not to put too fine a point on it, but, no, iCloud is not working fine. I was able to get everything, including iCloud, set up last night, and yes there was noticeable traffic.

This morning, mail on all my IOS devices, my Mac, and even on Safari were reporting a bad password, even though this is the same password that had been working for 12+ hours. The support forums are buzzing with it, and I am surprised as well that this did not make MDNs top list.

        1. I was having the same problem. But it’s all back up now. That little hiccup is the price of upgrading my MobileMe account day 1. Hopefully they got it under control…

Good thing I had a fax machine. Lol

        2. We’ll see how long… This is the fourth time it’s gone back up after going down since yesterday. Down… up… down… up… down… up… down… up… …?

          SJ is rolling…

        3. Hmm, guess I’m just lucky. I haven’t had any of those problems. Besides the slow downloads of all the updates, everything else has worked flawlessly for me.

    1. John, if all these problems are not sorted out in the next two weeks, then I would use the word “debacle”. I felt the same way yesterday when my iPad 2 update turned into an unmitigated disaster for all of five hours – but Apple was shining again when it all went through!

It just works – but that doesn’t mean there aren’t niggles and hitches to solve before it does.

    2. I just waited until last night to get iOS 5. iPad was smooth – took an hour b/c it had to restore all my stuff to it after the upgrade, which is normal. iPhone was smooth until the end where it said the restore failed. But it didn’t fail – I just picked up my phone and everything was there, right where it belonged. It worked fine. So I just unplugged it and off I went.

My two Macs and two iDevices are all happily synced, and iMessage works very nicely.

And I only waited 3/4 of day to try upgrading, instead of my usual week.

Now Friday may be another bottleneck, as another zillion iPhone 4S go on sale. Everything will be fine by Saturday. Keep calm, and carry on.

  1. Oh yeah, the camera. I almost forgot about the camera. That would be my other reason for making the switch to iPhone. So tired of ALL the subpar pics I’ve taken on ALL my other phones.

  2. Yes, iphone camera is a major issue. Sometimes Iphone camera creates problems like hanging, auto restart and showing us black screen. It’s usually happens when either the phone has dropped down or it has got some major injuries. I just had the same camera problem with my iphone. I was thinking that factory reset can solve my problem but nothing happened. So I start searching remedy on internet and I found my solution at http://howmobile.net/apple-iphone/2853-solution-camera-issues-iphone.html when I was not getting any perfect solution for my device. I applied the above solution on my Iphone and it worked. Now my Iphone camera is working. Hope the solutions would also solve your problem.
    Thanks
