Minnesota firm sees massive sales increase of Steve Jobs’ $175 black mock turtlenecks

“The Minnesota company that made Steve Jobs’ iconic black mock turtleneck has seen a dramatic sales increase since news broke that the former Apple Inc. CEO Steve Jobs died,” John Hageman reports for The Minneapolis / St. Paul Business Journal.

“Even at the price of $175, St. Croix Collections has seen sales of the familiar turtleneck double overnight, and some stores have run out of them,” Hageman reports. “St. Croix is owned by Winona-based Knitcraft Corp., which manufactures the sweater the Apple co-founder always seemed to be wearing for product unveilings and other public appearances.”

Hageman reports, “Knitcraft founder Bernhard Brenner said Jobs bought about two dozen black turtlenecks annually, wearing them almost every day. Jobs would occasionally call Brenner to say how much he liked the sweater, Brenner said. ‘Obviously we’re going to miss Steven Jobs as a customer,’ Brennan said. ‘But the country will miss him period.'”

MacDailyNews Take: Luckily, none of us can stand wearing turtlenecks, mock or otherwise (too confining; yuck, we fell like we’re being choked!), but, for the past two days, we’ve been getting misty simply from pulling on our gray New Balance 993s. It’s a good thing that ours are still in pretty decent shape; getting new ones right about now might be more difficult than usual.
