Statement by Apple’s Board of Directors:
We are deeply saddened to announce that Steve Jobs passed away today.
Steve’s brilliance, passion and energy were the source of countless innovations that enrich and improve all of our lives. The world is immeasurably better because of Steve.
His greatest love was for his wife, Laurene, and his family. Our hearts go out to them and to all who were touched by his extraordinary gifts.
Apple has lost a visionary and creative genius, and the world has lost an amazing human being. Those of us who have been fortunate enough to know and work with Steve have lost a dear friend and inspiring mentor. Steve leaves behind a company that only he could have built, and his spirit will forever be the foundation of Apple.

MacDailyNews Take: Oh, how we’d hoped this day would never come. Steve Jobs changed our lives profoundly.
We deeply mourn the passing of Steven P. Jobs. We have all lost a true Renaissance man. Mr. Jobs made the world a better place while bravely fighting an insidious disease during the last several years of his life under much public scrutiny. While we hope he did all of this free of pain, we suspect otherwise. Add “courageous” to the long list of superlatives describing this singular genius.
We extend our deepest sympathies to his family and friends. Thank you, Mr. Jobs for everything you have given to the world.
Rest in peace.

In 2009, following a liver transplant that he credited with prolonging his life, Steve Jobs said hoped that everyone would consider organ donation (video). For more information, in the US, please visit organdonor.gov. In Mr. Jobs’ honor, please consider giving the gift of life.

Here’s to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes.
The ones who see things differently. They’re not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them.
About the only thing you can’t do is ignore them. Because they change things. They invent. They imagine. They heal. They explore. They create. They inspire. They push the human race forward.
Maybe they have to be crazy.
How else can you stare at an empty canvas and see a work of art? Or sit in silence and hear a song that’s never been written? Or gaze at a red planet and see a laboratory on wheels?
We make tools for these kinds of people.
While some see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.

I’m overwhelmed with grief right now. Thanks for all the great stuff and inspiration. RIP Steve.
Cancer fscking sucks, it’s robbed so many of our friends and family. EVERYONE please make a donation, anything you can to ANY of the great orgs fighting and searching for a cure. Make it in Steves name…
Please..
The cure is for our society to not be the way it is. Cancer comes from so many places, for so many reasons and it will only get worse. Believe whatever you will, but I’m comforted by the Bible’s words of a time when “He will wipe away every tear from their eyes; and there will no longer be any death; there will no longer be any mourning, or crying, or pain” Our planet and our pain can only continue so long. That time has to be soon. Just my 2 cents.
Very hard to gulp the news!!.
Steve, you will be missed very dearly.
RIP.
I am sad. Just right after the announcement of the iPhone 4S. This is all for now…
Farewell Steve. See you around.
I can’t believe I find myself actually having tears in my eyes for this moment. But this man changed my life for the better in so many ways. I walked around as one of his biggest fans. I am sure I am not the only person that feels this way.
Steve Jobs is the Thomas Edison of our generation. His contributions to the world have completely changed the way we live our lives. He will be remembered in history books.
There has not been a CEO of a company as important as Steve Jobs since Walt Disney. Geniuses!
Horrible. So so sad.
What a terrible loss. I pray that Steve’s family will find peace and comfort in knowing that he is with Jesus. Amen.
What a courageous man to keep his dignity and still provide guidance amongst all the scrutiny and prying about his condition. I think it will be a few generations before we see another of his brilliance. Amazing capacity to blend technology and the arts and make it all more beautiful. What a shame. We’re all better off for sharing the planet with him.
I love apple. Steve founded the best company in the world in my opinion. My heard dropped when i saw this post. I will personally go into mourning. You changed the world and i am ever grateful. Rest in peace Steve
My heart is heavy tonight, my head bowed.
Steve, may you rest in peace in the knowledge that indeed, you did what you set out to do.
You changed the world.
Just learned about this as I went to the Apple site and saw his picture and dates in black and white …
First thoughts recall the grateful dead song, he’s gone, like a steam locomotive rolling down the track, he’s gone and nothing’s gonna bring him back.
He was an inspiration to those who would try to those who try to do things well in spite of overwhelming opinion to the contrary – Think Different, you will be remembered because you did.
I’m heart-broken
Tears. Nothing but tears. And great memories.
God bless you Steve, I love you.
In the words of Dr Seuss:
Don’t cry because it’s over. Smile because it happened.
We have lived with a great mind and spirit among us, and we all got a chance to know him a little. It’s a little selfish to expect more.
RIP Steve.
I can’t decide to reply with my iMac, iPhone or iPad. Job(s) well done. Don’t be sad. We should all accomplish so much. Be sad for those who dream much but accomplish little.
RIP Mr Jobs, you made my life easier, for the last 25 years of my life, everyday, one of the things you have created has been at the centre of my day. That’s weird… Your genius will be missed.
A man that define our time. Leaved a mark creating the largest manufacturing company in the world from zero in just 30 years. Steve, you´ll be missed. Rest in peace.
RIP Steve. A truly great man.

“have the courage to follow your heart and dreams…. Everything else is secondary”.
