Case-Mate iPhone 5 cases appear in AT&T’s inventory system

“We’ve just been sent an image of AT&T’s inventory system, and iPhone 5 cases are starting to appear ahead of the device’s launch some time next month,” Jonathan S. Geller reports for BGR.

“Case-mate, the company that slipped up earlier this month and posted iPhone 5 cases and renders before quickly removing them after we published the images, is the manufacturer of this first round of cases in AT&T’s system,” Geller reports.

  1. Am I the only one to notice the iPhone 4G case as well. I do have a hunch that there will be a 4G iPhone in this announcement. I think Sprint for one would require it since that has been their marketing cry.

  2. We already know the iPhone announcement is coming next week, so what’s the big deal about “images” of the inventory system showing listings for new cases?

(As a side note, I never cover Apple’s beautiful designs with cheap cases. Part of the user experience is seeing and feeling the device.)

    1. My case is not cheap (where cheap=$5 plastic or rubber vanity covers). I’ve dropped my 3GS several times, without my silicone case I either would’ve had to replace it or put up with a dented and damaged iPhone.

      1. Or… because I have no case on my iPhone, I am consciously more careful when I pull it out of my pocket, or pick it up. 🙂

(As another side note, the rubbery “silicone” type is my least favorite type of case. I tried one for an iPod a few years ago, and it made removing from my pocket more difficult. That extra effort may be why you have dropped your iPhone “several times.”)

  3. I sure as hell hope that we won’t need any kind of stupid case to get the phone to make, receive and maintain phone calls like we had to with iPhone 4. Maybe this time, function over design will win out and we’ll get what we pay for.

  4. I think it’s highly unlikely that AT&T will buy random cases from a manufacturer if they have no idea that it’ll be the right type, potentially wasting tens of thousands (or more) dollars. However I don’t think a case redesign means it’s necessarily a major step, they might not change anything inside, but it does say iPhone 5 on the case though, so I have no idea 🙂
