iPad 3 prototypes in circulation, Apple in no rush to launch, says analyst

“iPad 3 prototypes are already circulating in the Apple supply chain, but no new tablet should be expected to launch until 2012, says JP Morgan analyst Mark Moskowitz,” MacNN reports.

iPad 3 “will probably sport a 2048×1536 display, bringing its sharpness into line with the Retina displays on the iPhone 4 and iPod touch,” MacNN reports. “The challenge has been the absence or simply expense of such a high resolution for a 9.7-inch screen. The new iPad will probably also be equipped with a faster processor, the A6, which just recently began trial production.”

MacNN reports, “There is ‘no rush’ for Apple to put out another model, Moskowitz argues. ‘The other tablet entrants have stumbled so far, and that trend-line could persist deep into 2012.'”

    1. Most fail to see Apple’s history and the iPod “killers” case. They expect a different result from what history has shown and why it has been so (the complete ecosystem, support, general comfort level, ease of use, powerful cool brand, terrific Apple Stores ). People are realizing how inadequate others have been in the complete execution of media devices, so should be executed! Such is the far reaching brilliance of Apple while other CEO’s were snoozing only concerned with their stock options and golden parachutes.

  1. “That trend-line could persist deep into 2012.”

Huh? Please to explain where there is any indication that any potential tablet entrant could is poised to “catch-up” to where the iPad is today at any point in the next 5 years, much less in the next one year.

  2. Apple’s “not in a hurry” to release the iPad 3 because Apple has it’s product plan set and isn’t changing it to meet the whims of asinine analysts or Wall Street. The iPad 3 will come out spring 2012, just like it’s supposed to.

And I don’t buy any of this Retina Display talk. Simply too expensive to do at this point.

  3. Does anyone know if developers would have to make changes to all of their iPad apps so they would fit a retina display? If so, how major would that be? I seem to recall how a couple of years ago, Apple published instructions on how to change apps’ resolution relatively simply – although “relatively” could mean a broad spectrum of hassle.

    Just wondering.

  4. You know what’s crazy? Why in the world would Apple wait? They are not waiting on the competition. If they stopped innovating and thinking outside the box, then we’d be using beige box equivalents–and that’s not Apple. That’s the old game that Dell, Gateway, HP, Acer, and Lenovo play. Crazyfoams!
