RIM poised to miss tablet estimates as Apple’s revolutionary iPad dominates 19-1

“Research In Motion Ltd., depending on its new PlayBook to bolster sales as demand for its BlackBerry phones withers, may have shipped just one of the tablet computers last quarter for every 19 iPads from Apple Inc.,” Hugo Miller reports for Bloomberg.

“The company, which reports earnings tomorrow, probably sold about 490,000 PlayBooks during the first full quarter of sales, according to a Bloomberg survey of analysts, compared with the 9.25 million iPads shipped last quarter,” Miller reports. “Analysts cut estimates for full-year PlayBook shipments, to an average of 2.2 million, according to the survey.”

Miller reports, “The Waterloo, Ontario-based company will likely report its first revenue decline in nine years when it releases results tomorrow.”

      1. … is a lot of anything! OK, the reviews were somewhat less than stellar, but that only makes the numbers sold that much more impressive. I do have to wonder … what incentives were offered to get the people to buy? I looked at their web site … not that impressive. Nor was the price. Nor the look. BOGO?

    1. Also, RIM’s quarter is shifted, comparing to Apple’s. If they would take the same months for RIM and Apple — say, Jun-August, then Apple’s sales of iPad are close to 11-12 million.
