“Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo reports that Apple is scheduled to send the golden master version of iOS 5 to its iPhone and iPod touch assembling partners during the timeframe of September 23rd through 30th, suggesting a launch for the new hardware around mid-October,” Eric Slivka reports for MacRumors.
“Kuo specifically tells us that he has seen no evidence of the rumored redesigned ‘iPhone 5’ in the supply chain,” Slivka reports. “Instead, his sources point to the ‘N94’ iPhone that has been popularly referred to as the ‘iPhone 4S’ as the sole new iPhone model set to ship, with Apple planning for 30 million units through the end of the year. Apple is also planning production of an additional 5 million units of the existing iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS models as it transitions to the new model.”
Slivka reports, “As for the N94 iPhone, Kuo also shares a few details on the device: 512 MB of RAM, camera module height ‘almost same’ as in iPhone, 3.5-inch display [same as iPhone 4], glass front and back…”

We can only hope that there are two models of iPhone, and the iPhone 5 is kept so close to the vest that the quoted analyst couldn’t find any evidence of it.

Besides that, you have a odd take on chronology: in what time vortex is October of 2008 (HTC “Dream” shipped) after june 15 2009 (iPhone 3Gs shipped)
There was competition (rip-off copies of the iPhone), it just wasn’t nearly as good as the original (then and now)
The iPhone has had no real competion until recently. Android lacked the polish and the phones lacked appeal of the iPhone in my opinion until recently. The HTC Dream? Come on now! The Droid line has been the biggest competion to the iPhone since it launched in 2009. So take off your apple rose colored glasses and step out of the vortex and see that apple today needs more than a 3GS.

I can’t see why anyone would want to be a sweaty ape’s left nut but to be the sweaty ape’s mate’s taco, that’s just not right.
We have seen leaks for parts of a “4S” iPhone and only cases for an iPhone 5. Unless Apple has done a better than expected job at clamping down on part leaks, it looks like the design will feature only slight cosmetic changes.
As someone else mentioned, It’s what is inside the case that matters. And the iphone 4 is still a gorgeous phone. It still looks better than ay of the competition. A 4″ screen would be nice though.
Wouldn’t it be nice if Apple could just get on with the business of building devices without all the cloak and dagger B/S?

I don’t see Apple going through a redesign process for an iPhone 4S – moving the camera slightly, possibly switching to a different back material, etc. The 3GS was the same phone, just different innards. I would expect the same from a 4S.
Also, Apple isn’t going to sell the iPhone in 3 models: 3GS, 4, and 4S. That makes little sense. With the time that has passed since the normal iPhone summer update, to release a 4S is rather underwhelming.
I expect the iPhone 5 to be released just after iCloud goes live, because then the new iPhones will all ship with iCloud installed, which means Apple will grow its iCloud user base that much faster.
Apple’s names for iPhones always had sense: after the first model, there was 3G-enabled version, then speedy version of that, then fourth versions. “4s” makes little sense, since “four” is not some feature, it was just number.
I have seen no credible evidence that suggests analysts’ observations are necessary for continued Apple market success.

Think about it; the 2nd iphone was called 3G, obviously because of its 3G capabilities. Then we had the 3Gs, a faster version of the 3G model.
The 4th iPhone is called the iPhone 4 because of its position in the sequence, not because it’s 4G.
I don’t see why Apple would call the next version of iPhone 4S, mostly because it isn’t the 4th iPhone, it would be the 5th. The 4 in iPhone 4 doesn’t relate to any of it’s capabilities, just it’s number in the sequence.
I believe it’ll be called the iPhone 4G or the iPhone 5.
It just wouldn’t make sense having the name 4S. Let me know what you all think.

I don’t think you can go indefinitely with a number sequence anyway, so I’m hoping for just “iPhone”.
the iPhone 4 is hands down the best looking phone there is. If the new iPhone looks the same, it’ll still be better looking than other smartphones. No sense changing the design, just for the sake of making it look different. With iOS 5 due, all the best new stuff will be software.

This has to be wrong! I believe if Apple only releases a slightly modified iPhone 4 (iPhone 4s) they will lose sales. I know we have all waited long enough for the next generation iPhone and for it to be called only a 4s would deffently disappoint many. With the Samsung Gallexy S II launching on ATT they might actually have some competition. As loyal as I am to Apple if this article is true I will be skipping the next generation and giving this so called android os a try. I may just regret that though!! What do y’all think??
