Apple set to open a new retail store every 50 hours on average thru September 25, 2011

“With the announcement today of Apple’s 11th Australian Retail Store in Penrith, we contacted the famously secretive manufacturer to find out more about the company’s direct-to-consumer retail plans,” Patrick Avenell reports for Current.

“The response we received, whilst not exactly clear on the future, suggests that Apple’s push into storeland will continue at a steady, if not aggressive, pace,” Avenell reports. “‘Apple Retail has been in business for 10 years. During this period, we have had over 1 billion visitors through our doors, many of whom are new to the Mac, as the Apple Store is the best place to learn about all the latest products from Apple,’ said the spokesperson.”

“As for the future, Apple plans on adding to its current global count of 330 stores,” Avenell reports. “‘Our retail offering continues to growth, with Penrith the 11th store in Australia, since we opened Apple Store Sydney just three years ago. Globally we are planning to have 363 stores in fiscal 2011.’ With the Apple fiscal year ending on 25 September 2011, that means Apple will be opening a new retail store, on average, every 50 hours until that date.”

  1. Eventually Apple will have built enough stores so one appears on every street throughout the world, generating traffic of more than 7 billion people per day. 😉

  2. I believe the Apple representative misspoke. Apple has opened 330 stores in 10 years — that’s 33 stores per year. It makes sense that Apple will open another 33 stores next year bringing the total to 363.

Is Apple going from 330 stores to 363 stores in 2.5 months? I seriously doubt it.

  3. Fairfield, CT should get an Apple Retail Store. Borders just went out of business and there is nothing there right now. That would be re greatest thing ever. The closest one is in Norwalk so it would be awesome to have one right in Fairfield 10 minutes away from home.
