“The latest trends seem to indicate that Apple’s apps are beating Android’s,” James Lee Phillips reports for International Business Times. “Oddly enough, Google has released at least one iOS-exclusive app of their own: the Photovine photo-sharing app.”
“Whatever your feelings about the social game twist on what some may call ‘yet another’ photo-sharing app, the important point is that it’s not currently cross-platform,” Phillips reports. “Google’s Slide developers have offered it on their rival’s App Store, with an Android version (at this point, only presumably) following.”

Phillips reports, “However, they’re not alone; Flurry, an analytics company, ran the numbers on 45,000 companies and 90,000 apps and came up with some telling results. Among other things, Flurry found that the number of Android projects has dropped, while the number of iOS projects has risen.”

Verizon iPhone and iPad 2 cause Google’s Android to lose developer support to Apple’s iOS – July 14, 2011
Interesting to know. I assume this must be due to the foresight that iOS and the iPhone and iPad hav created for the future of apps.
Simple really. Developing for Android is like taking a toilet brush and cleaning your genitals with it. Sure your dick will be clean but your balls would be rubbed raw in the process. Not a lot of fun really.
Your comments are spot on, but a shrink may find your obsession with genitals (name and comments) quite unsettling.
I prefer to let the ladies do that.
Your comment is inappropriate. MDN should remove it.
“Inappropriate” is subjective. His comment would definitely be inappropriate for a site like MacWorld, and they absolutely would not tolerate it. But, MDN has a more laid back attitude toward crude, lewd and just downright stupid comments and people. While I wouldn’t want this everywhere, it’s nice to have a place where you can come to act like a total moronic asshole and get away with it, which I take advantage of frequently since I’m not a member of Congress.
I kind of disagree with your… “Inappropriate” is subjective… statement. That can take a black and white issue and make it gray. And by whose definition would we be going to? The poster’s, the website owner, your’s, mine, the inappropriate subject themselves?
No, inappropriate, should be just as inappropriate here on MDN, laid back status or not, as it would be on MacWorld. Is date rape not just as wrong if the topic was discussed in Hustler as it would be if it were talked about in Cosmo or some other woman’s magazine? What about some racist, gender, religious or homophobic derogatory comment. Is there ever a time and place where it is acceptable and right to say and a time and place where it might not be so acceptable?
Some things just aren’t subjective. Some things are clear cut. Some things are just wrong… no matter where one finds them.
In my humble opinion, of course, which is highly subjective…
You just took a silly crude comment and compared it to 5 hateful topics where another person is being victimized. You should really take a class on persuasive argument because you failed terribly here.
An analogy involving genitals would not be inappropriate amongst my group of friends, but wouldnt be appropriate for my grandmother. So, your argument is just dumb.
I personally appreciate the playful tone in some people’s responses to the articles on MDN. I appreciate when MDN doesn’t censor people.
If you want to read a site that sensors people, go on macworld or 9to5mac.
Most things aren’t black and white. False dilemmas are in fact fallacies.
I also disagree: If the trolling, inappropriate comments and off-topic remarks make up the majority of the users’ reactions, the MDN thread becomes irrelevant and objectionable to read.
If too many MDN threads become irrelevant, what does that do to MDN overall?
People who act like they’re the world’s nannies are inappropriate. MDN should remove Robert.
(or maybe just hit him in the nards with a toilet brush, either way)
I agree with Robert. Once you’ve aged past the teen years, the verbal vomit of immature posters ceases to be entertaining. It is a measure of a person’s character and how they present themselves. Mr. Nut up there did not impress me in the slightest.
I think that it is rather humorous. However, I do differ with BLN in that I believe that both dick and balls would be rubbed raw.
Apparently Robert was rubbed raw, as well.
2nd.
It was funny. meant to be funny.
That was mild compared to some of the other stuff that gets posted here. (political topics anyone?) Robert obviously has not read any of those…
(And no… do NOT turn this into one now…)
Lemme guess. You abhor the idea of BOOBIES on the TV screen, but violence is a-ok.
Great explanation.. MDN should put it on the refrigerator at the top.
Ouch! Talk about something being rubbed the wrong way. I just know I want to see Android knocked on the collective head with an iPhone mallet. If Apple isn’t able to increase market share with the next iPhone introduction, then I don’t know. I don’t necessarily mean increase market share over Android, just pure market share. It’s nearly impossible for Apple to outsell a halfway decent OS that’s offered for free on all carriers with low-cost devices and BOGO offers on top of that.
Hahaha, great comment from the remaining testicle hanging from Ballmer’s crotch.
It probably never descended in the first place.
In all seriousness, it’s the high quality of the developer tools and the API’s that Apple has vs. the shit that you have for Android.
… and the large # of credit cards available to purchase apps in the iOS ecosystem.
Yep, there’s a reason why Apple had so many apps so quickly for iOS. I really don’t understand why Google and Microsoft haven’t figured out the importance of a toolchain that doesn’t suck.
If I could write Android apps in Objective-C or Smalltalk, I’d give it serious consideration. If I have to put up with Java, forget it.

That and iOS isn’t fractured between countless versions and models handsets/tablets.
Developers don’t like it when the idea reaching a large number people with their software is rendered a futile pipedream. Even malware authors must be pissed off.
Google is awesome at platform-building, aren’t they?
Cubert is right. As an iOS developer, I’ve considered doing apps on android but….
— I’d have to rewrite them from scratch. This seems to appeal only to the “but android is OPEN!” crowd.
— There is no apparent addressable market of any size. Only the most generic of apps will work on all android devices.
— I stopped writing in Java a decade ago. For good reason.
— Excluding the Java issue, comparing Apple’s tools & frameworks to the rest of the industry, it is a lot more fun to work on iOS. So, that undermines WP7 for me as well. Why spend time re-writing when that time can be spent working on better features / moving forward with the app.
and finally:
— Android is a ripoff of the iphone. The courts may not protect intellectual property, but I’m not going to help thieves in the marketplace.
Perspective, like treason, is a matter of dates (no rape implied).
Adults nurture open minds and dialogue. However startling.
Its not so much that the development tools on android are bad, really they are decent. Its just that xcode is a better IDE than eclipse and apple has a far more limited target set to deal with.
There is apparently more money to be made on iOS also.
Really both devices offer more than is needed overall but i would still give a nod to apple’s app store and dev tools as being ahead.
As an app developer, I can say without reservation, publishing for other platforms other than IOS is a complicated, expensive waste of resources.
Multiple screen sizes and input methods make Android and Blackberry a nightmare. Since Blackberry is in death throes and Android users don’t buy apps why bother.
If you develop a beautiful UI you will hate what you app looks like or must be reduced to…www.mobiletasktracker.com
And what about private apps developed for internal use? I’m sure the difference is staggering.
Robert and Montrex…your comments are inappropriate. I come here for some of these comments. While not among the most wittiest I have read here and there tend to be some truly hilarious ones, I did have a good chuckle.
Relax a bit and try to improve your stench of humor.
I think this android is not inferior to the Mac but the newly developed android, while Macs have been doing for a long time, and Mac get a good hardware support at Apple, while Android should find support hardware from other companies.
