“Bungie, the studio behind the Halo, Myth, and Marathon series has reportedly filed for a trademark for ‘Crimson,'” Andrew Groen reports for Mac|Life. “What exactly ‘Crimson’ is, we don’t know, but it was filed under ‘computer game software for use on mobile and cellular phones.'”
“Speculation is rampant at the moment about what Bungie could be up to,” Groen reports. “This development holds particular interest for diehard Mac-faithful. Bungie was one of the most lauded developers in the history of the Mac gaming scene before being acquired by the ultimate enemy, Microsoft, and working on their platforms for ten years.”
Groen wonder, “Could the prodigal son be planning a return to Apple platforms?”

MacDailyNews Note: Bungie Studios concentrated primarily on Macintosh games during its first nine years of existence. Halo’s public unveiling took place to thunderous applause during the Macworld Expo NYC July 21, 1999 keynote address by Apple’s then-interim-CEO Steve Jobs. We were there. On June 19, 2000, Microsoft announced that it had acquired Bungie Software. As a result, the Mac and PC versions were delayed, and the game was re-purposed for Microsoft’s Xbox, helping to drive sales of Microsoft’s trouble-prone game consoles. Mac and Windows versions of Halo were eventually released two years later.
