Thousands complain Nintendo 3DS gives them headaches and dizziness

“Thousands of customers have reported suffering headaches and dizziness after playing the three-dimensional machine, which works by flashing separate images into each eye, creating the illusion of depth,” Martin Evans reports for The Telegraph.

“But some are angry that they are only being offered partial refunds if they return the console to some retailers,” Evans reports. “Sundeep Tailor, 27, from Luton said he started to feel unwell after playing his 3DS for just three minutes. But when he took the product back to his local Game store he was initially offered a refund of £176.99, which is £30 less than the price he had paid.”

MacDailyNews Take: Say “hello” to restocking fees, Sundeep.

Evans reports, “Nintendo has been forced to defend the 3DS, last week announcing that the console was not safe for under-sevens, while also warning people to only play in 3D mode for less than 30 minutes at a time. Some retailers, including HMV, are offering full refunds but only for a limited period.”

    1. For me, this isn’t mean old schadenfreude. It’s documentation of the incredibly sick state of business these days. Of course I feel great knowing that Apple hasn’t perpetrated any major screw ups lately. But the main point is CONTRAST: Compare Apple’s quality to the so-called ‘competition’. This is a disturbingly POOR era of business.

There’s capitalism. And then there’s incompetence, self-destruction and customer parasitism. Whatever happened to capitalism? Why is an MBA degree become a reason to cringe?

  1. Idiots… hard enough for the eye/brain to keep from imploding watching a 2hr+ 3D in your face M Bay movie. Imagine what its doing to your eyes and brain playing a game for 3hrs or more on a smaller screen with fake bs 3D. I’m surprised no one has gone into seizures or gone catatonic and become a zombie from these things. lol

  2. To all the people who bought a 3DS and tried to return it: Man up you little girly-boys. If you can’t handle playing in 3D now then how are you ever going to get used to drinking alcohol when you grow up?

  3. Personally, I’d like Nintendo to succeed with this technology and remain vibrant in the gaming market. Kill off obtuse Microsoft, please! And yes, apparently there are some people who get nauseated from even the highest quality of 3D motion imaging (which uses light polarization).

    But let’s face it kids:
Nintendo let this one out of the R&D farm before it was ready weening. It’s not ready for prime time. This isn’t a Version 1.0 Effect. This isn’t even a Beta Testing Effect. This has the bad scent of an Alpha Testing Effect. If you disagree, read Nintendo’s own statement one more time:

“… only play in 3D mode for less than 30 minutes at a time.”

Very naughty Nintendo. Back to R&D and QA testing it goes…
