Gaming industry plans to exploit iPad 2 speed boosts

“The mobile gaming industry is already in the process of adapting graphics to the iPad 2, even though the tablet will only ship on March 11th, developers reveal,” MacNN reports.

“The chief creative officer of Unity, Nicholas Francis, notes that while his company’s engine already supports multi-core processors like the Apple A5, the firm is planning to ‘really fine tune and really optimize it to run fantastic on the iPad,'” MacNN reports. “Developers building games on Unity should be able to add effects to iOS that were previously limited to PC and console titles.”

MacNN reports, “Epic Games — the developer of Infinity Blade and the Unreal Engine, aside from many PC and console titles — claims that Unreal Engine 3 is already able to take advantage of the iPad 2… Real Racing 2 HD will therefore be “much more graphically intensive,” also capitalizing on the iPad 2’s gyroscope to improve steering. Space Minter developer Venan Arcade comments that in an upcoming sequel, some iPad 2-exclusive graphical filters will be present.”
