10. Consumer trust must play a role.
People are buying into the iOS (potentially Mac) platform. If it works on my iPod it will work on my iPhone, it will work on my iPad and will work on my Apple TV. The same thinking helped propel Microsoft when people thought about things working on Windows. People are creatures of habit and Apple not only has a compelling set of products in and of themselves but they’re also selling a platform that no handset manufacturer or tablet manufacturer can compete with.
The whole is greater then just the sum of it’s parts with Apple.
These are stupid, did some fan boy come up with this garbage? Android the forgotten OS? Yeah most everyone at this point agrees the iOS on phones will not beat Android, but thats a race to the bottom that Apple doesnt want to be in.
Despite whether or not this list makes a lot of sense I still wouldn’t quite come down on the side that iPhones won’t be selling as well as Android phones. Apple may not be able to dominate this market by sheer numbers but I don’t think they’re willing to live with the kind of market share the Mac has. Certainly the iPhone is eating much of the profits in this market but there’s no reason to expect Apple to seed the space either.
Uh, just who are “most everyone” who agrees that Android will beat iOS? While Android seems to have some sales momentum going for it (depending on which survey you read), it certainly does not have the customer satisfaction or developer support. If “beat” means selling more units than Apple sells iPhones, then that may be true when you count any and all cheap versions of Android. But just look at how many Android phones are quickly scrapped and replaced, or can’t have an OS upgrade, etc.
Android is the new kid on the block and is being pushed hard by Verizon, Sprint and T-Mobile because it’s the best alternative to the iPhone. Verizon is quickly putting its marketing emphasis behind the iPhone, and T-Mobile even runs ads for the iPhone which it doesn’t sell. You don’t see that with Android phones.
Beat means beat it in numbers of units with Android sold. As for Android being new on the block, eh no. Its been around for a while and has over 100000 apps. As for scrapping Android phones, what survey are YOU talking about? Most smartphones require two year contracts. Android has already won the numbers game in so much as units sold. Apple was already aware this would happen, they knew it because it was an easy call. Android doesnt make Google any money, ill say it again, Android does not make Google any money. Users can pick and choose their mobile search engine as needed regardless of OS, so google needs to figure that out and when they do the support will stop. Just like much of the Gmail advances have stopped. Google is starting to figure out that building all these tools for people isnt profitable.

Seems like it won’t happen, at least not right away. Why would they build a iphone4 for verizon, only then to release a iphone 5 a few months later? That would piss a lot of people who bought the iphone4 off.

4G? iPhone 5? Really? Is that right? Verizon is activating their 4G network now. Not some day. They have phones that will work on the 4G network. I sure thought that they were Android phones? One thing for certain, the iphone4 won’t work on the 4G network. And from what I have read it sounds like the iPhone 5 (if it comes to Verizon) will only run on the 3G network. hmmmmmmm

How about something like, with Android you’re just buying a device, with the iPhone you’re buying into a thriving ecosystem, cohesive platform and access to the largest content/media outlet on the internet.

Does this article say “10 reasons why a future product that doesn’t exist yet will be better than a current product that does exist”? Because it seems like you could say that about anything.
I’m not sure it’ll take iPhone 5 to do it… I’ve got 4 friends, three of them were adamant Android-heads since last spring, and they’ve all bought iPhone 4 over the last week. So much for resistance… even the one guy bitching about the iTunes activations and ecosystem, went with the flow. Nice when it all works, eh, boys?
I think everyone has pointed out how lame this article is already. Anyone who switched to iOS from Android probably did so because they were too “simple” to understand Android. iOS has one thing over Android: it’s completely idiot-proof. If you’re even slightly tech-savvy, you’ll enjoy Android more than iOS. Widgets? 4G support? Completely open dev support? Android phones (except for Motorolas most recent phones) are supported long after EOL due to the mod devs putting out optimized software for phones, while iOS phones are compeletly dead after Apple stops supporting them. I have an Eris that I use basically as an iPod Touch (not using it as my primary phone; I have a Droid X for that) which was $30. It is faster and more responsive than any iPhone I’ve used, thanks to the software put out by mod devs. Stock, it’s slow as dirt, but once I put 2.3 on it and overclocked it (I’d like to see an Apple user put the latest software on an old iPhone and then overclock it), it’s more responsive than my X (primarily because the X has a locked bootloader and can’t load custom software… thanks Motorola).
If you buy into Apple’s products, then you’re most likely tech-retarded, or your an Apple fanboy. There isn’t one thing I have found that Apple offers that Android doesn’t offer, or has improved on. Meanwhile, there is a huge list of things that Android offers that iOS doesn’t.
