Saab reports, “During her recovery, Giffords has been using her iPad to look at pictures — which her neurologist, Dr. Michael Lemole, told reporters two weeks ago was a ‘fantastic’ advance as it showed ‘higher cognitive function.'”

Sorry she was shot by some nut job and hope for a meaningful recovery but this incessant news coverage is a real turn off!

She’s a Congresswoman… A politician… If sadly, she were to have passed, two words: Special Election, but because she’s from Washinton DC fame, that entitles extreme coverage by the press! Why? She wasn’t from my state, city, county, district or even neighborhood. The only way she affected me was voting dumb ass government encroaching, liberty stealing, bills into law. Pick up your local paper and see the senseless violence perpetuated daily by citizens against other citizens of this country! And they are lucky to have a 30 second sound bite on their local news, forget about going national, or a small write up in the local paper… Welcome to the rest of everyone elses world Gabby, where the people have no name, along with streets!

Your comments demonstrate that you do not place much importance or value on elected officials and instead accept the mediocre performance and lack of accountability many of them exploit. Gabby is quite different and is a true example of a rare elected official who engages constituents and furthers their causes in her case despite documented concerns of her own personal safety. I think that is the true story that has captured national interest, albeit not yours apparently. Just because you disagree with her constituents views does not make her less of a human, more dispensable, or her everyday efforts to stay true to the roots of our political process less incredible.
Your rant to me does seem a bit uninformed and a bit cruel and offensive frankly, but that’s just my opinion. I also find it interesting that you call the perpetrator a “nut job” but admit that your view might sound “sick and demented” yet manage to blame the press.
The press is a funny thing. They are for the most part motivated by the viewing habits of their audience. If they don’t click, listen, or watch the content they don’t get paid and move on to a new topic very quickly. As much as we collectively complain about them it is really we the people who are to blame as we are voting constantly with our television remotes, radio dials, and mouse buttons. What have you been voting for if you’re tired of watching all the coverage? It’s a great mix of free speech and real-time democracy and we should all accept blame for the state of our nation, politicians, children, neighbors, rants, etc.

In this day of single digit approval of congress and the government in general, I’m surprised that more politicians haven’t been assassinated. The public is pissed off and given the number of nut jobs on the loose it will probable get worse, and the majority of these problems rest on shoulders of the same people who are pissed off. The answer is get involved, if you don’t like the Republicans or Democrats, support a 3rd party. The government is your enemy and supporting these despicable people that are currently in power is not the answer. They are filling their pockets with our money and laughing at us on the way to the bank. Vote the rascals out.

While I feel you have every right to state your first comment about the press coverage of Giffords vs other victims, to make the “vegetable” comparison just shows your immaturity and lack of caring for others. If Giffords doesn’t receive even a small amount of compassion from you, I doubt you have real concern for the other victims of violence you pretended to be championing.
I hope for your sake that someone that you _actually_ care for is not stricken by violence, or cancer, or dementia – Then, maybe the joke won’t seem quite so cute.

Blogs are a very powerful and wonderful thing when used for good.
The problem is that people lose their sensibilities and conscious too often when blogging. Something about not being face-to-face and in front of a human allows people to say some of the most discussing things. Things they would not say in front of their kids, parents, or friends. It’s really quite sad and this tread is true evidence of that.
I would like to think that “That’s nice” and “Frank” really are nice people who are just caught up in this phenomenon. I hope no “nut jobs” happen to read this thread and take their misguided and careless words as validating any of the silly voices in their heads.
Let’s all be real, mature, and actively participate in making this country a better place through education and participating in the political process instead of contributing to it’s demise with irresponsible and immature chatter.

Point is – you are NOT tired of it.
Perhaps you did not notice but 20 people were shot and 6 killed. That typically IS news even in this jaded society. Actually, the local news gets all excited if someone gets their tires slashed so this actually is a step up.
If this had happened on a college campus you would have no problem with the news. I will bet dollars to donuts that if it had been a right-wing pol or preacher shot then you would be up yelling and screaming for blood. But now you just want to bury it with a sad excuse of “gee, people get shot everyday.”
