America needs to be like Apple

Apple Online Store“In this week’s State of the Union address, President Obama outlined the need for the United States to “out-innovate the rest of the world”. We couldn’t agree more. Attempting to copy others is a surefire recipe for second-class status,” Michael Yoshikami, President & Chief Investment Strategist, YCMNET Advisors, writes for CNBC.

“The United States need to be a leader in thought, design, and execution. Economic victory requires nothing less,” Yoshikami writes. “But is there a model America can follow? Is there a corporation that epitomizes innovation that can be a learning lesson for other companies? The answer is yes; Apple. Apple has demonstrated what can be done with visionary leadership and courageous creativity.”

Yoshikami writes, “It’s not unlike thinking 10 steps ahead in a chess match. Grandmasters that follow this path are the ones that win championships, not those that merely react to the current environment. Thinking ahead, and in a way that alters the product/service landscape, is the Apple way.”

“America must play to win and not rest on past successes. A new history begins now. The past is irrelevant. AMERICA MUST PLAY TO WIN starting today,” Yoshikami writes. “While the rest of the world may have been tempted to give up on the United States, they take the leader of the economic world lightly at their own risk. It takes discipline, commitment, and innovation; all of which America can summon if the desire to win is strong enough.”

Yoshikami writes, “Yes, this is this generations [sic] Sputnik moment; will America rise up and meet the challenge? We believe the United States will shock the world with it’s resilience. And we believe the challenge will be met. The alternative is second place and something America dislikes. Winning matters in America.”

  1. Apple = visionary leadership, and brilliant engineering guided by an exquisite understanding of user experience. Any idea how hard that is to find or teach?

In most businesses there is no interest in creating an environment that promotes innovative thought, or placing value on talent. For the last three decades American business school mantra has been this: bottom line this quarter…cut costs…don’t reward anyone but the top guys.

    @WriterGuy: exactly.

  2. @ Mikester

Sure. George W. was a paragon of truth, who did a great job of teaching his daughters to live a clean, virtuous life. Oh, and prior to 9-11 was the hardest working president ever.

Maybe it’s really the intolerant that are the liars and the ones holding America back by blaming it’s problems on race or religion.

  3. “civility in politics” BWAAHAHAHAHA You are not very bright, nor observant.

Sure lots of baby kissing idle TALK about civility, followed by a rush to grab power, curtail rights and enact new restrictions on the public.

Yeah – Civility my ass. The donkeys are the kings of incivility. Always talking about tolerance until you oppose their ideas. Same for the Elephants..They all keep you fools fighting while they and their cronies bleed America Dry.

The two party system is a sham, if the last 30 years of partisan bickering, & general inability to get things done hasn’t shown you this, you aren’t paying attention.

Start voting Independent/Libertarian/Green and lets disrupt this good old boys club and give the country back to the people.

  4. Obama is right, the USA must become the high technology powerhouse if it’s to improve it’s standard of living in the future. It might not have been his greatest speech but he wasn’t lying. Just telling like it is.

The problem is that the majority of US citizens, black and white, are very badly educated and hold extreme religious and political views that hamper development of society.

Vast swathes of the US electorate politically inept and couldn’t tell truth from deception. Now you know why Fox News is so popular.

  5. to add the political quarreling:

Anyone who thinks Obama would be a good President, or Biden a good next-in-line-to-be president, shows astounding mental issues (delusional thinking, incompetency and/or ignorance). The Democrats terrible, terrible choice for a President alone discredits their entire capacity to make important decisions. All the while bankrupting the US and destroying the constitution, rights, private property, capitalism. While worshipping China. Craziness.

  6. “America needs to be like Apple” – forgetting that almost everything Apple “makes” is designed by Apple, but built by others overseas.

“Possessing no experience and no idea what makes American great is why Obama is a very poor U.S. President.” Look around the current administration. Few of them have any experience creating or running a private business. It’s mostly lawyers, activists, many who have only worked for government, and a smattering of university professors.

Only now is Obama starting to bring people on board who have business experience. But even GE’s Imelt brings with him the stench of crony capitalism. GE got a lot of TARP money based on its ownership of a small bank out west, and structured itself to make billions out of carbon trading – hardly the basics of strengthening economic America. Imelt is no Jack Welch.

  7. You can really tell who the liberal Marxists are scared to death of. Fox News???? The only Fair and Balanced big news operation. Who do you trust PMSNBC where Comcast just fired Keith Olberscum? The NYSlimes? ABC, NBC, CBS? NPR? Give us a break. We know that you absolutely can’t trust the flat out propaganda coming out of those hellish places. Sarah Palin would run circles around all of you fools on the left. I hope your nightmare comes true and she winds up being the next president or Michelle Bachman. They are true leaders. Unlike any Panty Wastes you liberals vote in.

  8. It has nothing to do with the leader, it has all to do with the people. It used to be that regardless of who the President was, we as Americans would get behind and push in the direction they’re pushing. Now, regardless of who holds the office, there will be those that could help things get better but, wary that it may make the “other side” look good, will instead do nothing or worse, push opposite or make moves to undermine.

I can guarantee than whomever you THINK would be the perfect candidate to lead this country to greatness would never be able to actually do so.

  9. Maobama absolutely falls under the category of destruction of the Constitution, USA, Capitalism, Private Property, Rights, Free Speech, on and on. We know there are a huge number of people that could do a much better job than any of the liberal and RHINO fools holding office now. Stop covering for the Marxists.

  10. Apple is the banner child in how people should be conducting their own lives (and since corporations are now considered people by the moronic Robert’s court, the analogy is appropriate) – develop your full potential, offer something better, sell your labor for the highest dollar, spend judiciously, ask for nothing from government than protection from unscrupulous predators, have no debt, save conservatively and treat people with respect. What is not to love about Apple and that approach to life?!

  11. @Kenyan

You flatter me with your imitation. Not the substance, however.

Biden is a solid candidate. Nothing wrong with that’s not common among Democrats or politicians. Sure he’s not as well read as Sarah Palin. How many newspapers did she tell Katie Couric she reads? Oh, yeah, infinity. And how far away is Russia from mainland USA according to her? Oh, yeah, within eye site. And what advice did she give to all her Twitter followers about how to remove Gabrielle Giffords from office? Oh, yeah, fire then reload.

  12. In a country where 1% of it’s population has control of over 50% of all the wealth, you know we have a big problem. Money is power and control. This 1% own the message, and they also control the status quo of our nation. Once you realize this, you get to see the big picture. People bicker about what party is in power, well the really people in power, don’t get elected, they never have and they never will.

  13. The monumental stupidity of the faux conservatives posting here is astounding. I’m not a conservative, but neither are the likes Jillian et al. They are merely “ditto-heads;” the name says it all. By the way, Jillian, Ron Paul is a libertarian with integrity; Palin is an attention whore who excels at baiting and collecting speaking fees.
