“During a presentation to investors in New York on Thursday, T-Mobile CEO Philipp Humm put an explicit percentage on the so-called iPhone effect: how many T-Mobile subscribers leave every month for AT&T just because of Apple’s smartphone,” John Brownlee reports for Cult of Mac. “According to Humm, the churn rate — or number of contract customers lost per month — is sitting at 2 percent right now. Of that 2% leaving the network, a full ten percent are because customers want the iPhone.”
MacDailyNews Take: The other 90% desire an actual signal. Hint: If even AT&T Mobility looks superior, you’re on the wrong carrier.
Brownlee continues, “To counter, Humm says that T-Mobile will launch a line of sub-$100 Android smartphones with subscription plans starting at just $10 a month.”
MacDailyNews Take: “We can’t offer you the filet, but would you like to eat from the dumpster instead?” Anyone still expecting iPhone to arrive on T-Mobile USA anytime soon needs to reassess.

MDN: there are times I enjoy your take and at other times your take appears to be the incoherent ramblings of a three year old. Whatever network works for a person then that is the best network to be on. Screw which phone, does the freaking’ network allow you to make calls? In my particular case the best network is T-Mobile.
I’ve had success on AT&T, but then again, I’m not in NYC or SF.
I (and my family plan) left T-Mobile 2 years ago for the iPhone.
MDN,
EVERY carrier has dropped calls, bad signal areas, etc… T-Mobile and VZ are the best in the area that i reside. People like T-Mobile for the reason that they are the cheapest…
And with the iPhone staying off their network (for now), customers with T-Mobile will benefit from leveraging deals…
Until REASONABLE CAPPED data plans get to $15 or less i really have no need for an iPhone…
But no doubt… i like many agree if there was one smart phone to have… IT HAS TO BE THE iPHONE.
I am one of the 10%. Left T-Moble when the 3G came out. Other than that I found T-Moble to have very good customer service and coverage where I live. I’d go back if they had the iPhone.
I used an iphone on t-mobile but switched to the mytouch for one reason, I needed the wifi hotspot that the mytouch can do.
Give me an iphone 5 on t-mobile with hotspot at the same rate I’m paying now and I’ll take it.
The mytouch may not have all the polish that the iphone has but it picks up a better signal and does hotspot. I’ll take a slightly lower signal to get an iphone but I’m not giving up hotspot.
In my area, when I got my iPhone 4, my cellular service improved greatly from what I had at T-Mobile. I don’t understand why people fuss about AT&T – I love the great service
@ silverhawk;
If you think today’s takes appear “to be the incoherent ramblings of a three year old”, I’d suggest you take a course in reading comprehension and brush up on your sorely lacking skills
Seriously, dude? Those were easy to read and understand.
Just because you threw a hissy fit, doesn’t make the take incomprehensible.
Sheesh MacDailyNews, what is your problem lately with your takes. They’re becoming so bitter to the wrong crowd. Just save that talk for Apple Haters & Microsoft.
I would love an iPhone but I would hate to leave the awesome service they’ve delivered me. I have been on the edge so many times to take the AT&T plunge for the iPhone but How can I when T-Mobile has done me so well. And now that Talk abut iPhone coming to it is increasingly frequent, I have held off. I’ve been with them since 2006 & the only time I have dropped calls in in the middle of nowhere or in places that block signal.
What the f#ck is your problem MDN? I’ve been on T-Mobile for years and am waiting for the iPhone to be sold through them because I won’t leave for ATT or Verizon. Zero signal problems and great customer service are two of the most important aspects to a good carrier and T-Mobile has both. Add the iPhone and it’ll be perfect.
I too left T-Mobile for the iPhone 3 years ago, however if T-Mobile would have had the iPhone available I would have stayed put. I loved their customer service and always had excellent signal anywhere I ever tried to use it. As a former customer I have nothing bad to say about them at all.
I left T-Mobile too, because they switched one tower- the one near my office to one further away and my signal dropped to one bar. Otherwise they were great, great service, cheap $30 a month plan, etc.
Ah.. more and more and more excuses about and for T-Mumble…. What a ridiculous bunch of wannabees….
AND, even when you call to see what it will take in terms of penalty payments to get out of your contract, they STILL don’t understand that your calling them to find out how soon you can dump them like a bad hamburger!!
But in fairness, ALL the carriers in the US are just as bad. They LIE in their advertising..They LIE in their contracts.. They LIE in their incentive programs.. They LIE when speaking about their networks… They all do it to one degree or another some just better than others. Since T-Mumble has been the laggard in the US market for years, they’ve just gotten better at it than the others.
If you want a phone – do a ‘Pay as you Go” plan… If you want something else – buy a laptop.
I support Silverhawk’s comments. If MDN thinks that a “perfect” phone always trumps the network, service, and pricing in all regions, then clearly MDN has lost its perspective …. not that MDN was ever objective to begin with…
@Mike, right on! MDN has got a serious weed up it’s ass about Android and it’s not justified.
MDN… The iPhone is a great phone, but it’s not the only or is it the best phone! Get over the fact that someone IS challenging the iPhones dominance and will likely continue to do so!
@Winski, What in the world are you talking about?!! You have not f*%king clue what your talking about! Just shut up before you seriously embarras yourself. Oop’s, it’s too late.
