“Just nine months ago when Apple introduced the iPad, skeptics voiced doubts about its longevity. Even the product’s name was the subject of jokes,” Wailin Wong reports for The Daily Telegraph. “Now, the $16 billion market that the iPad controls has electronics-makers eager to introduce their own tablets.”
MacDailyNews Note: We greeted the iPad thusly: Who’s going to buy Apple’s iPad? Millions of people, that’s who – January 27, 2010
Wong continues, “The latest industry data project massive growth in tablet sales over the next several years. This week, Yankee Group released its first forecast for the category, projecting global revenue from tablets will jump from $16 billion in 2010 to $46 billion in 2014. Dmitriy Molchanov, a Yankee Group analyst, called this growth unprecedented and said tablets are outstripping upward trends observed with HD TVs and MP3 players.”

It does not surprise me! HD TV and MP3 players are limited on what you can do. After 4 hours with them one does want to turn them off for the day. With an iPad you spend 4 hours, go do something else, and come back to it for some more. There are so many different things one can do with an iPad that one can easily fill up a day.
Judge Bork, you da man.
…and its here to stay and change the world.
The article focusses on specialized tablets for kids. In my opinion that market is already covered by the iPod touch.
No way…I call rounding error.
I recently read comments from an ex Apple exec who said: Apple undoubtedly already has iPad 4 and 5 at the design stage by now. That’s right, iPad 2 and 3 are already near completion!
And, the rest of the copycat CE and IT industry is trying they’re best to get their iteration 1 copies out the door.
“Even the product’s name was the subject of jokes.”
Which was the height of childishness. Nobody made such fun of the several dozen other common terms with the word “pad” in them. Within a fortnight, that silly association was forgotten, and I haven’t heard of it since until this article.
I usually use my iPad on heavy days, and my iPod on lighter days. This arrangement works best for me.
The know-it-all pundits, the brilliant analysts and the tighted-assed naysayers all laughed in derision of Apple’s iPad when it was announced at the keynote last year. Now all the bitches are down on their knees paying indirect homage to Steve Jobs and Apple for basically creating a consumer tablet market that never existed before.
Now the hordes of copycats are jumping on the tablet bandwagon like it was the most natural thing in the world all the while bragging about how their tablets are way better than what Apple can produce. If that isn’t dissing Apple then I don’t what dissing is. All these companies that are sucking hind tit ought to be a little more respectful of an industry leader.
Just for the disrespect that rivals are giving Apple, the iPad 2 needs to crush them and sell in the 30 million unit range for the whole year and have the iPad 2 retain about 80% market share. Go, Apple and kick some tablet butt.
If Ballmer so much as mentions about another rounding error when it comes to Apple devices, he should be taken out and flogged.
“If Ballmer so much as mentions about another rounding error when it comes to Apple devices, he should be taken out and flogged”
Well yeah but that would just be a turn on for him.

I say it’s more like a gazillion. Every person on the planet will have one for each day of the week. And 2 on Sunday.
From now on whenever the word “pad” pops out, people will no longer associate it with ladies’ sanitary products but with a magical, revolutionary product that comes out from Apple’s stable, the iPad.
Apple will not take 100% of the tablet market. This is natural for everything. Even if Google empowers a toilet paper maker to come out with a turkey tablet, there will still be people dumb enough to get one.
A few months ago Google says they hope to make a billion a year in the mobile market (via ads etc as Android is free).
Apple made 8 billion on iPhones alone last quarter. Now the iPad…
I am very enjoyed for this side. Its a nice topic. It help me very much to solve some problems. Its opportunity are so fantastic and working style so speedy. I think it may be help all of you. Thanks.
