“In what should not be regarded as a surprise, Verizon CEO Ivan Seidenberg and other presenters during his keynote address at CES 2011 this morning made no mention of the possibility of the iPhone coming to Verizon,” Eric Slivka reports for MacRumors.
“Seidenberg’s role as the primary keynote speaker for the event had sparked speculation that the forum could be used to introduce a Verizon iPhone, although most observers have long thought that such an introduction would take place at an Apple-controlled event headed by Steve Jobs,” Slivka reports.
“A CDMA version of the iPhone compatible with Verizon’s network is still widely expected to make its debut early this year, possibly within the next few weeks, but we have yet to hear word of any Apple media event that would presumably accompany the introduction,” Slivka reports.

Considering Apple is still selling iPhone 4 as fast as they are made without Verizon, I don’t think Apple is in any big hurry.
My theory is that Apple actually WANTS the “collective Android” to have Verizon to itself for as long as necessary to completely marginalize the rest of the competition. Apple can’t make enough iPhones to satisfy 100% of true demand, so why not have Android phones (from numerous makers) take up the slack, instead of giving it to RIM or Nokia. Once everyone else is out of the way, and the only relevant smartphone platforms are iPhone (iOS) and Android, Apple will create an iPhone that works on Verizon.
Competition versus a single fragmented platform, where the primary software developer makes no direct profit from an Android phone sale and the many hardware developers are competing mostly with each other selling mostly indistinguishable “commodity” phones… that type of competition will be predictable and relatively easy for Apple to manage and manipulate. Just like “Mac versus PC,” but even easier because Google does not have a double (Windows and Office) “cash cow” (for funding) and the hardware makers do have have any real pricing advantage (except desperation two-for-one offers to clear out unsold inventory).
Now, that time might actually be next month. Surely, no one thought Verizon was going to make an announcement so soon after the Holidays, when recent customers are still able to get a refund (to buy an iPhone instead). And Apple does not want recent ATT iPhone customers getting a refund to wait for a Verizon iPhone either.
iPhone on Verizon is the 800lb Sasquatch in the room.

“…any day now, since 2007.
It’s kinda funny, tho, that people are clamoring for Verizon, which is arguably even more craptastic and evil than ATT. “
I personally dont care if the iPhone goes to every carrier..

But I do love the speculation over the whole thing. it’s funny as hell.
My sister has Verizon, i had verizon. I switched to Cingular when Verizon screwed me over for the last time.
I have tried to call my sister, sitting 10 feet away from her. and i get her voicemail. (i did it to rub it in) she just wont acknowledge that her belief that Verizon has more coverage here than AT&T is wrong. Her kids friends have Verizon, so they MUST stay verizon.
Some people just cant see
If the iPhone went to all carriers tomorrow, it would spell the end of Android etc.
So IMO, Verizon iPhone, T-Mobile iPhone, Sprint iPhone, great!
But as for me… I’ll stick with AT&T.
I just hope that IF/WHEN the iPhone is on other networks, Apple makes sure they cant restrict the iPhone or add crapware to them.
Points a big finger at Verizon……..
the iPhone should always be the same, regardless of network.
but i still find the whole thing hilarious.
