  1. @Ben

Run all of Onyx’s features, it will reset your Mac back to factory like conditions, take care of all the maintenance scripts etc., Spotlight will re-index the hard drive so after that’s done it should feel a bit more snappy.

Of course for better performance requires a 7,200 RPM hard drive, less than half full and optimized via cloning to a external and back again, more memory. Even better is a SSD drive, but they are still too high and low on storage.

  3. Okay, I think Jonny Evans needs to look up the meaning of the word essential.

Here’s a list of actually essential Mac utilities, or at least I think so:

    1. iGetter
    2. Perian
    3. VLC
    4. Whatever the least suckiest MSPaint clone is at the moment. Paintbrush? PaintDS? iPaint? I wouldn’t know because I use Tiger and they’re all for Leopard for some reason. Son of a bitch developers.

  5. I would have said ClamX AV but every time I install it the background processes (scanning) completely bogs down my MBP. Took me a while to realize until I checked out the Activity Monitor and it was using 50% of the CPU.

I do need a good anti-virus software. Anyone got any suggestions?
