The name “iPod” is brilliant, because back in 2001 when the original iPod was a 5GB hard drive “brick” that played music and did not do too much else, it was ultimately envisioned as a multi-functional device. “iPod” does not imply a music function; it is very general and non-specific name, unlike “iPhone” or even “iPad.”

I have a iPod touch and then a cheap clam shell Nokia cell phone. Until T-Mobile gets the iPhone it will stay this way. Even after that, I would probably just keep the touch in my vehicle or give my daughter the touch and take back my old black iPod for the car.

I think Gartenberg hints at the generic nature of the term iPod and that the touch is the defacto iPod now, so it’s incredibly relevant.

I used to use my iPhone as my iPod but my battery was dying all the time and interrupted my music playing through shop so now I got the new nano and my iPhone is always fully charged

Cubert, Macbook Pros do rock. My 2007 model, however, is 2.2 ghz and going so strong I still think it’s new… other than a few scuff marks here and there, and having worn a few letters off the keys… it’s bulletproof. Runs everything I need and more…no need to be updating anytime soon.
I think you might check your typing… it probably should be 2.53 ghz, not 1.53 ghz.
Cubert, Macbook Pros do rock. My 2007 model, however, is 2.2 ghz and going so strong I still think it’s new… other than a few scuff marks here and there, and having worn a few letters off the keys… it’s bulletproof. Runs everything I need and more…no need to be updating anytime soon.

I think if you try connecting your Ipod with the original charger or a docking station may be it will work.

Apple is capturing entire markets unopposed with the iPod touch. And the new iPod touch with real world VOIP, Facetime, multitasking, >300 ppi resolution, hardcore games, HD video camera and editing is only going to accelerate that trend.
Not having anything remotely close to the iPod touch is a HUGE strategic blunder for Apple’s competition.
