Apple releases iTunes 10.0.1

Apple has released iTunes 10.0.1 which makes it easier to share your favorite music with your friends on Ping. You can now Like or Post about music right from your iTunes library. You can also easily see the recent activity of a selected artist in your library, or of all artists and friends you follow on Ping using the new Ping Sidebar.

This release also provides a number of important bug fixes, including:

• Addresses an issue where the picture quality of a video changes depending on whether the on-screen controls are visible.
• Resolves an issue where iTunes may unexpectedly quit while interacting with album artwork viewed in a separate window.
• Fixes a problem that affects the performance of some third-party visualizers.
• Addresses an issue where the iTunes library and playlists appear empty.
• Resolves an issue that created an incompatibility with some third-party shared libraries.

iTunes 10 comes with many new features and improvements, including:
• Introducing Ping. Use Ping to follow your favorite artists and friends or connect with the world’s most passionate music fans. Discover the music everyone is talking about, listening to, and downloading.
• Rent HD TV episodes for just 99¢ each. Watch them on your Mac or PC, on-the-go with iPhone or iPod touch, or in your living room with the all new Apple TV.
• Play your favorites on the all new iPod touch, iPod nano, iPod shuffle, and Apple TV.
• Play music wirelessly with AirPlay on AirPlay-enabled speakers, home theater receivers, and iPod accessories.
• Explore many look-and-feel improvements throughout iTunes.

  1. anyone know it if takes away the common 10.0 hacks; i.e. horizontal buttons, color to icons, replacement of application icon?

i obviously REALLY liked the old layout, so i’m all prepped to keep it that way. this update isn’t worthwhile to me if it junks all these things.

    a yay or nay, anyone?

  2. Don’t know if it takes away the hacks, not having run them n the first place, but found a great hack package here – http://macthemes.net/forum/viewtopic.php?id=16805795 – which I just used to get all my iTunes 9 goodness back.

One thing I did notice – on both the newly hacked 10.0.1 as well as the original monochrome copy of 10.0.1 that I saved just in case, is that there’s no more button to the right of artist and album names that you can clock to show just that artist or that album. I used that feature a lot, and mis it already. Anyone else notice that and miss it?

I don’t know whether it replaces the horizontal button hacks, as I prefer the vertical buttons anyway.

But it trashes my replacement app icon and the coloured sidebar icons. So I put them all back again.

  6. I have my library on a drobo. Four 1.5gb drives turn into 4gb of redundant storage. I’m very happy with the setup. I serve data to three apple tv’s and an airport express with no problems.

Drobo sells for $356 at amazon right now with no drives. Be careful to check the drobo site as some drives are incompatible. http://www.amazon.com/Data-Robotics-FireWire-Storage-DR04DD10/dp/B001CZ9ZEE/ref=sr_1_1?s=gateway&ie=UTF8&qid=1285539834&sr=8-1

  8. I should mention that the netgear readynas is also an excellent solution for large libraries. They have a two drive version for those who don’t have as big of libraries as mine. It has some additional tricks to. I think you can put your music and video’s on it and it serves out to other computers as though it was an itunes share.

  10. @Jennifer,
“Apple needs to get rid of iTunes, not add more useless garbage like Ping. It’s already as bloated and buggy as something Microsoft would produce. They really need to work on their cloud strategy.”

Steve Ballmer, shame on you, using a girls name for posting. 🙁

Get rid of iTunes,,,, cause its killing the Zune???? And replace it with what,,,, the microsoft store??? and ms points vs dollars.???

And I really like the way you actually admitted that Windows 7 was ” bloated and buggy”, like that would confuse us… LOL

And just what should Apple do with a cloud strategy??? Make some cluggy thing and name it Azure…. the color of a “cloudless day” LOL Sorry Steve but that was just lame. I hope you bring more to your director duties at MS than you do to your clueless posting…..

Actually, considering Win Phone 7,,,,, maybe this is as good as it gets high in the cloudless sky that is microsoft?????

    Just a thought,
