“Messianic, evangelistic and utterly devoted to the art of making beautiful products that ‘just work’ – it’s no wonder Apple’s founder and chief executive is seen as a demi-god in some technology circles,” Claudine Beaumont writes for The Telegraph.
“Under Jobs’ stewardship, Apple has made a significant dent in Microsoft’s dominance of the home computing market, as well as churned out an endless stream of beautifully designed, cutting-edge gadgets, such as the iPod, iPhone and, more recently, the iPad,” Beaumont writes. “His vision and business acumen have been crucial in reviving Apple’s fortunes, and he has built up a team of trusted lieutenants who embody the Apple ethos of clever design and simple functionality.”
Beaumont writes, “Jobs is a talismanic figure, a charismatic man who exudes power and confidence, and whose keynote presentations to unveil new Apple products are one of the hottest tickets in town. His every utterance elicits whoops and cheers from the crowd, and gadget fans willingly camp outside Apple stores for days before a product goes on sale to ensure they are among the first in line… Rupert Murdoch, one of the most powerful businessmen in the world, rates him as the best chief executive around.
‘He’s got such incredible focus,’ remarked Murdoch. ‘He’s got such power inspiring the people around him who work for him. Apple is a highly, highly disciplined company. And it makes beautiful products.'”

Thats still no reason to cal him a dog or even a demi dog.
So, he’s Demi Moore’s brother!

He’s not a god, just a time traveler, as in Heinlein’s The Door Into Summer.
But “when someone asks you if you’re a god, you say YES!”
—Winston Zeddmore, Ghostbusters
I think they make cool computers too?
He may be talismanic and charismatic, but is he hydromatic…?
err, excuuuse me… what do you mean “demi” god? There is nothing “demi” about Steve Jobs, my Lord and Savior. Blasphemy!
Only demi?
@Metryq: Great book!
Read it a dozen times.
If Steve was a woman, he would be called a Diva-Vixen.
Haha! Love the MDN pic.
So sayith “The Steve.” Amen!
Just think how much FARTHER ahead the tech world would be if Steve had never been tossed from Apple by John Scully. Stupid move of the century. There should be an anti-Pulitzer prize for moves like that, for someone who helps ruin the progress of the world.
Steve should never have hired John scully in the first place.
He is not a God for there is only one God the God of abrham, issac and the God who sent his only son to die on the cross for our sins and rise again on the 3rd day.
Um, ok. How about: Steve Jobs: Hard worker.
Elevating him to godhood also elevates the competition, meaning they never could have achieved Apple’s success. While reality is much simpler: While the competition was fully capable of achieving Apple’s success, they squandered their chance on the bottom-line. At the same time, Apple’s people and products come first, while the bottom-line takes care of itself.
Ok Claudine, that’s a woman’s name. Ok you actually sound like you’re blowing him.
@ilovemymac
Don’t take things so literally and serious, life’s harsh enough without being able to laugh at things.
When religion gets too serious to be used in humor (verbal or illustrated) you produce the type of rabid followers who fly planes into buildings in the name of that religion.
@ MacRaven
Steve Jobs’ exile in the wilderness was essential to his formation as the person he is today. With NextStep, he learned the value of open source. With the Next computer, he learned the futility of trying to sell something with a price greater than its perceived value, and with OpenStep he learned that vertical integration is the way to go.
The best thing that ever happened to Jobs and Apple was when Scully put him in exile. Without that experience, he never would have developed the drive for vindication that led to Apple’s success.
@ Harvey,
Well, you make a good counter-point with that reasoning.
We need a time machine dialed to before Scully ditched him and intervene and see what happens.
@Harvey
Or as my mother used to say “Everything happens for a reason.”
@MacRaven
Remember that next time someone creates an illustration of Mohamed. Then see who’s laughing. Just sayin’
Back to Steve now..,
Be careful how high a pedestal you place Steve onto.
Remember back in 1990 when Apple was at its highest market share ever, or since, (approximately 19% of all personal computer sales across both Apple and Macintosh lines). Scully was considered invincible. He was considered a genius. One magazine (MacWorld?) had him as the “Shogun” of computing on its cover.
Fast forward a few years and Scully became reviled as the architect of the start of the dark days of Apple.
Hopefully history *will not* repeat itself.
@BMWTwisty
Agreed. That’s exactly the point I was making.
@MacRaven: you clearly do not understand any bit of Apple history, nor do you listen to Stebe Jobs’ own speeches about being kicked out of Apple. If Steve hadn’t been kicked out of Appke, we wouldn’t have a powerful and amazing Apple today. Maybe you should start educating yourself by watching Steve’s Stanford speech.
And he does it all for $1 per year
