Lily Allen is going to sue Apple, according to The Sun.

“The pregnant singer had her laptop hacked into and the only way she can find out how is by taking legal action,” The Sun reports.
“The papers against the software giant were lodged last week at the High Court,” The Sun reports.
Full, but exceedingly brief, article here.
According to TNW’s Matt Brian adds a bit more, “It is thought that Allen initially approached Apple for assistance, when this was refused a lawsuit was was filed.”
Full article here.
MacDailyNews Take: This is certainly not something Apple should do as it’s likely quite the legal liability. Apple probably and smartly has rules in place against doing the very thing Allen wants them to do.
[Thanks to MacDailyNews Reader “Thelonious Mac” for the heads up.]
yeah…. um. she’s not American. jump down off your high horse there.
And like the News of the World, the Sun is soon to be behind a Murdoch Paywall, at least then we’ll find it easier to avoid the rubbish that man publishes.
@Macaday
Everyone knows the only thing The Sun is good for is Page 3.
How exactly did someone hack her laptop?
I’m a PC, and bringing Lily Allen into the world, sans brain, was my idea.
What’s with the abuse?
If you think she’s silly – or the newspaper’s report suggests that she is – fair enough: but “whore” and “bitch” and “..who hacked her uterus?” are utterly inappropriate pointless abuse, and have nothing whatever to do with this apparent ‘story’ ..which may, in any case, be incomplete or be inaccurate.
Pull yourselves together, folks; oh, and don’t blindly believe what’s written in a newspaper’s “bizarre” gossip column..
@Macromancer,
“Everyone knows the only thing The Sun is good for is Page 3.”
It’s also very good for lining your cat litter trays.
High technology baffles another girlie.
Pretty Ms. Lilly should stick to singing witty ditties.
Just my $0.02
It’s too obvious, someone that worked on the machine at one time enabled screen sharing or installed some other screen sharing software!
Or maybe some of her pics got stolen because she was sharing them over the network
It’s right in all the fine print when you purchase the machine – Apple is not responsible for whatever happens because of issues like that.
Could you imagine if every MSFT customer sued when they got a virus? LOL, they’d be out of business in microseconds.
Publicity whore, that’s all this unknown whoever is.
If she wins MS is in a whole lot of hurt!
@skydiver
When you bring legal action against someone, there’s a filing. That’s not up for debate, regardless what you believe about the source of the information.
I should have emphasized “stupid” in my analysis. My apologies for including a descriptor that had little to do with her mental faculties, which have *everything* to do with the filing.
There’s a lot of information lacking from the story, but Lily Allen may just simply be following standard protocol for the situation.
It’s *possible* that Lily Allen had her MobileMe account or Apple account broken into. Whoever did that may have caused significant damage and would be worth pursuing. It may be a stalker that she wants to have arrested or whatever.
Whatever the case, if it’s an account that was broken into, Apple should have the IP address of the person in their server logs. However, in order to obtain that information, you’d need to file in court.
This actually happens all the time.
Does anyone know the cause of action and the factual background?
It may seem an odd application but it may make sense on further information.
Lily Allen shows up from time to time on one of my Pandora stations, which tends to focus on leading-edge European rock. Her music is actually a pretty good listen.

Apple is not responsible. Cannot get into privacy investigations for customers, nor can it pursue every theft of an Apple product.
Oh, to have the money to sue somebody else every time I screw up!
Talk about frivolous lawsuits! I’d like to know how her computer was ‘hacked’. But I have an extremely strong suspicion the hacking is the result of LUSER error.
Likely suspects:
There are currently 23 Trojan horses for Mac OS X, the full extent of its malware. 3 of these Trojans were been implicated in a botnet in early 2009. Others provide a back door into the computer. All of them require LUSER error in order to be installed.
There are also hacker tools around that can be installed onto non-secured Macs running an Administrator account. An example is the ‘Hellraiser’ hacker tool, which has 3 varieties. The most recent version was implicated in pwning Macs earlier this year.
Then of course there’s the usual: Oops, I spewed all my data to everyone within router range while I was a Starbucks, etc. If a router doesn’t require WPA login, expect everyone to see your data.
And Apple has what to do with all of this?
N O T H I N G
All of it is due to either LUSER error via social engineering or LUSER error via leaving your Mac unsecured. So sorry Lily. Me thinks you’re a LUSER.
BTW: One of the problems with frivolous lawsuits is that often the judges who approve the cases have no idea whether the suit has anything to do with law. Rather pathetic. In this case I could see a computer illiterate judge allowing this case to go forward when in fact it should be thrown out of court as having no basis is law.
When the High Court Judge grants access, Apple will have their backs covered, after all you wouldn’t want Apple or AT&T to grant anyone access to your account info without a court order right? Lily Allen or the Government should go before a judge to get access to anyone’s info whatever the reason.
this lawsuit will sit around for 3 years as Apple has bigger fish to fry.
@Michaele
“No talent, no brains and a lawyer … Is there a worse combination?”
Well, It works for Paris and Lindsey.
OMFinG True story, my house was broken into and 6 laptops stolen. F’in insurance company says there is a small limit, and will only pay for 2. Thanks to the Goddess Lily, I know how to get money for the other 4, I’ll sue Apple! Lily ROCKS!
Maybe she should change her password, because “imadumbslut” isn’t overly difficult to deduce…
Lily Allen is trying for her “15 minutes of fame”
