“In late July, Apple announced a new 27″ LED Cinema Display, set for launch in the ‘September’ timeframe to replace the existing 24″ LED Cinema Display and 30″ Cinema Display, which are seeing remaining stock being depleted before being officially discontinued,” Eric Slivka reports for Mac Rumors. “With September now half over, customers have been anxious for an update on the possible release of the new 27″ display.”
Slivka reports, “Based on the continuing changes to Apple’s online store listing and availabilities, Apple may be preparing to take orders for the new 27″ LED display in the very near future.”

MacDailyNews Note: When available, Apple’s new 27-inch LED Cinema Display will have a suggested retail price of US$999. The LED Cinema Display requires a Mac with Mini DisplayPort.

This is the first I have heard that this new monitor will REPLACE existing display offerings.
$999 is a great price, though. I have the 24″ and it is the best display I have ever used.
Note that for $700 more you can get an imac instead and have both a 27″ display AND a mac.
@ NCIceman
Or for about $2,200 more you can get a 27″ iMac to run the 27″ as a second monitor. Which is my plan – my 24″/23HD setup is on its last legs.
Glossy only. Gripe, gripe. There. No more comments about the lack of a matte option are required.
@Grrrilla
Sorry, despite your well-meant blanket statement lamenting the lack of a matte option, as someone who does a lot of Photoshop, my next monitor will certainly not be an Apple Monitor. Most likely something by Lacie (the 324 model perhaps) will be on my desk when my 23″ Cinema Display dies.
I love Apple, but can’t help feeling abandoned by them just a bit.
@ Grrrilla,
But as long as you voice your opinion, I’ll voice mine.
I’ve owned (and preferred) glossy screens since the days of my 1st NEC monitor.
A glossy screen can be matted, a matted screen cannot be glossied. Matt or gloss, where you place your monitor will determine its effectiveness. For example, if you place a glossy screen in a room with diffused lighting or backlighting so that the rooms light is behind the screen or in a dark room, a glossy screen is fantastic, in the same situation, a matt is not as good. The reverse works for the matt os opposed to the glossy.
I like lemons, you like oranges, nothing wrong with that, its just a matter of personal preference.
Please Steve, let me attach a blu-ray player to it… plllllease?
@Ralph
They DO make HDMI to mini display port adapters, so you COULD theoretically hook up a Blu-Ray player. But you would probably have to disconnect the computer to do it.
The only way I’d give up my Apple 30″ monitor
is if they came out with a bigger one.
What happens is i connect my EyeTV Hybrid to the display???? haha. seriously!!
