“There were a lot of rumors and expectations ahead of Apple’s much-hyped music event yesterday,” Ryan Faas reports for Computerworld.

“As expected, Apple unveiled a new touch-based iPod nano, and an iPod touch sporting the company’s A4 processor, its super-high-resolution Retina display, and front and rear cameras offering HD video recording and video chat via FaceTime,” Faas reports. “There was also a new iPod shuffle, which thankfully returns to the previous iteration’s design with on-device buttons and a clip to make it wearable.”
Faas reports, “While the iPods and Apple’s upcoming updates for iOS 4 — next week for the iPhone and iPod Touch, November for the iPad — were big announcements, Apple CEO Steve Jobs also introduced a revamped Apple TV and iTunes 10 featuring Apple’s new ‘Ping’ social network for music. Both represent major moves for Apple that point to where it hopes to go in the years ahead.”

Apple could offer TV manufacturers a $50 or $75 iTV module to be an option in their HDTV line up. Same thing in the auto entertainment.
What does Apple gain by offering Netflix? Doesn’t that cut into their own rentals?
@iMaki
It is more about getting the devices in the home. They will then be able to link other Apple products that they may have or will buy.
The product will be like a Trojan horse- iTunes can invade a house by the sale to a Netflix user- as myself. I think it adds value and will force more pressure on the networks to provide content for the little Trojans.
As I see it.
Turns out Ping is useless for me. There are no artists or people I want to follow that I can find on the service, and I only buy music which I sort-of like on iTunes and can live with never having a lossless quality copy. If I really like the artist I buy the CD, and don’t see that changing until they stop making CD’s.
Amazon is simple, cheap and with a good selection. Not sure what PING brings except concert tickets
@iMaki
It sells devices. Apple is and always will be a hardware company. They would rather sell more devices to more people than make the (very little, if you look at their financial reports) money selling content to those who have already purchased.
The iTunes store exists to sell devices. Anything extra they make from it is windfall. Not that it’s very much.
Seriously MDN, I’m a big fan, but your iPhone app is broken. Sure glad I can access the site with Safari.
Please fix?
iTunes 10 is noticeably faster on my MBP.
Had to rebuild my library after installing 10, and Ping is of little or no interest to me.
@Galloway,
Good for you… And anyone should give a fuck what you think because???
Eric,
Galloway had a point to make and did so without resorting to a narrow-minded tirade like you have done. If you can’t make a criticism without insulting a poster then my advice is to go somewhere else with your abuse. Perhaps you need to interface with a brick wall because at least then it might knock some sense into you. However, as far as I can see you’re a legend in your own mind and as such, you’re a waste of good air.
