“Apple severed ties with a small Silicon Valley design firm that for nearly a decade had helped with the development of some of its products, after the firm showcased its own prototype tablet computer,” Miguel Helft reports for The New York Times.
“Eric Bauswell, a founder and chief executive of the engineering design company SurfaceInk, confirmed on Thursday that his company and Apple had ‘gone separate directions,'” Helft reports. “Mr. Bauswell declined to give details of its relationship with Apple, citing client confidentiality agreements. But he said that his company was let go because of ‘Apple’s growing awareness of our turnkey capabilities,’ referring to SurfaceInk’s business of designing products for its clients. ‘I think they view our capabilities as an opportunity for competitors,’ he said.”
MacDailyNews Take: Instead of paying to run an ad, just call tech reporters with your “story” and see who bites.
Helft reports, “The incident underscores the growing pressure that Apple is facing in the market for tablet computers. While the iPad currently dominates that market, many rival products are expected to be released soon.”

Fscking devastating MacDailyNews Takes!
Love to see the searing truth!
Maybe they are not so critical “partners” otherwise they would have bought the company.
Prove is they are not that reliable as they are using the work they did for Apple against Apple. Nice mentality!!!
The usual rubbish, as if Apple needed any help in turning an iPod touch into a giant iPod touch.
Helft reports, “The incident underscores the growing pressure that Apple is implementing in the market for tablet computers.”
There, much better.
One can’t deny the pressure is growing on Apple… like a fart slowly building up when you’re in a crowded room.
Losing the second largest market cap company in the US as a customer has to feel like someone pushed a butter knife into their heart.
Expect to see microsoft at the top of their new client list.
Don’t you just love this FUD stuff!!! You’d think by now the competition would try a different approach, one that might actually work.
“Insanity is doing the same thing over and over, yet expecting a different result.”
I was wandering around the internet last night when I saw this story on Microsoft.
It said “Has Microsoft Blown the Timing on Tablet PCs?”
My thought was, yeah by about 10 years.
article here if anyone wants to read the hilarity. http://www.reuters.com/article/idUS262046530620100826
So many commentators and analysts think it’s all about the hardware.
It’s all about the user interface, Bozos.
Could be a lawsuit in the future for those guys.
SurfaceInk is Google w/o cash
I just shot coffee out my nose!!
@HMCIV
Sometimes you just have to cut it loose, eh?
@KingMel
Especially when you don’t know how the competition will come out.
Maybe it will stink.
Maybe it will go away quietly without anyone noticing.
Maybe it will make some noise and cause embarrassment.
Maybe it will be crap.
How the hell can you be under pressure when there are no real competitors available? That is simply weird perception of the domination and success that the iPad is having these days and with competitors still some way off.
growing pressure???
LOL!
There are NONE!!! Growing pressure my ass… What hell is this idiot talking about?
