“An image showing what Chinese case vendor X-Doria claims to be fourth-generation iPod touch and sixth-generation iPod nano cases has appeared online,” Charles Starrett reports for iLounge.
“The image shows two iPod touch 4G cases with openings in the rear clear plastic for a camera and either a flash or microphone,” Starrett reports. “Notably, the shape of the cases suggests the touch will retain its curved rear shell design instead of moving to a flat back panel as seen on the iPhone 4.”
Starrett reports, “The two supposed iPod nano 6G cases, on the other hand, appear to be made for a squarish device based on the 1.7-inch Apple-branded touchscreen seen in photos earlier this year, without any room for a front-mounted Home button… Text accompanying the image notes that it is unclear what a move to this small a form factor might mean for the future of the iPod shuffle, though the “nano 6G” device is more like a screened iPod shuffle than the nano.”

Certainly Apple can’t be stupid enough to go to a touch-based input for the nano. Right?
We’ll see in a week.
Touch based Nano please – coming from my iPhone, it’s just too weird and 20th century dealing with the clickwheel…
If that’s the case (no pun intended), then there’s no longer any need for the iPod shuffle.
If they do implement touch screen, it had BETTER not be in a small square format. I really like the current shape, size, and dimensions of the iPod nano (including the camera) and if it goes touch screen, they should just extend the screen over the whole body and have it run nothing but the Music app from the iPhone… (it would be nice, and the long screen would allow for viewing a large list + coverflow…)
They had better not skrew up the Nano.
Hey Mr. J the clickweheel came out in the 21st century.
The Nano could have Multi-touch built into the material of the case.
People should take note of the patents Apple have filed for in the past for touch sensitive materials.
1.7 is small!!! FFFFFUUUUUUU-
Touch isn’t ideal for everything – one of the nice things about the iPods has always been the tactile feedback – you could access it through soft or waterproof cases or even clothing and control it easily. Not to mention controlling it in the car with one hand (or even a finger) while hardly looking at it. It was pretty much just a music player, after all (I get the usefulness of touch on the iPod touch and iPhone – there’s so much more they can do).
If they go all touch on the nano, my next purchase will be the largest last-gen model (unless they come up with something really compelling I haven’t thought of yet).
@menow – don’t worry man, right now that may be how you feel, but after it’s released, you’ll probably agree that Everything went better than expected.
” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”smile” style=”border:0;” /> Apple has a way with that.
I agree with Dinjin201 on what he said, i would never down grade from the 5th gen nano that i have now to a stupid small touchscreen. I want a nano with a 3 inch touchscreen. If apple does this nobody will buy it. This would kill apple
Guess X-Doria won’t be making any cases any more… :p
Apple keeps things quite about release dates and features. Anything you hear in the mean time is just rumor and wishful thinking, such as the camera. That rumor flies every year and every year, no camera.

Tell you all what, from the looks of things this is just too far!!!!!
A Nano that small is just plain too small and uncomfortable to hold I assume.
Just take out you current Nanos and just practice touch input onto it’s screen, Uncomfortable right, now try to minimize that to 1.7″. Even Worse. You would have to lay in the palm of your hand to work this rumored form factor.
And if Apple Continues the Camera into the new nano in this form, it will be so awkward to hold, likely uncomfortable.
I hope this is not true and that this may be the Shuffle replacement. I really like the ClickWheel as I don’t have to look at it when I’m Driving.
If this is the Case, I will buy the largest Capacity of the Current Nano.
