The ever-arrogant Apple

Apple Store“Following the Antennagate news conference, certain critics quickly concluded that Apple was acting like its usual arrogant self,” Ken Segall blogs. “I couldn’t agree more.”

“How dare Apple think they can make this problem go away with a free case that makes the problem go away,” Segall writes. “They need to suffer more than that.”

“It’s gotten to the point where Apple doesn’t even try to disguise their arrogance,” Segall writes. “They’re a company that creates devices other companies should have created, follows standards only when it pleases them, shuns research to create only the products they’d like to use themselves — and then won’t even let outsiders tamper with the platforms they’ve created!”

“Look what they’ve done to poor Adobe, yanking away their right to spend more than three years figuring out how to run Flash on mobile devices,” Segall writes. “Look what they’ve done to the world’s developers, telling them to write specifically for iPhone rather than just port over apps designed for less capable phones. Compounding their sin, they have the unrelenting gall to insist that apps meet some basic standards for quality and reliability. With their “our way or the highway” attitude, Apple takes choice away from customers, forcing them to settle for a library of only 225,000 apps.”

  1. @BurningZeppelin…

It’s a matter of context. In this context there is no difference between (perceived) arrogance and pride/dignity. Apple’s competitors want to change the context. However tens of millions of their happy customers won’t let them.

  2. You can control, monopolize, and be arrogant when you have the best and complete solution products for the average Joe. M$ tried it on multiple 3rd party conglomerations of hardware and software and forgot to invent the best product.
The guy who wrote this is your typical hard left O’ voter. He’s lost and is delusional and angry, yet secretly loves what Apple creates.

  3. @geo,

Check your sense of humor you idiot, or go back to school and learn the meaning of Sarcasm.

Then trying to interject a political view that has no ties with the article at all, This is pathetic.

geo, get a life or go outside and talk to real people once and awhile, your or are you a classic closet case.

Are most of these dim witted posters more then 13 years of age or just Apple haters that have a day off from stocking the local supermarket for lonely housewife’s.

  4. @geo

We know who you are, as defined by your observations of others.

Imagine that, we’re all thinking you must be the polar opposite of the very thing you describe.

Sucks to be you, whatever it is!

“I am not a native english speaker, but is there any difference between arrogance and dignity? of pride? or confidence? or this article just screwed up the semantics?”

NOPE, Burning, arrogance is not a form of dignity. Rather it is a form of stupidity or irrationality. It is expressing complete confidence in success when the situation calls for the rational person to calculate the costs and probabilities of failure.

  6. Quit crying people. Apple gave you the option for a free bumper, but they also gave the option of returning it with a full refund. So return your iPhone 4, put a fresh diaper on and go buy a Droid you baby faggot. Oh and make sure thats a pacifier in your mouth and not a cock.

  7. So true, and the gall of them making hardware that runs an OS without driver conflicts and DLL version crashes. They are single handedly putting tech support and computer repair out of business. Not to mention all the extra work we must do now that I can effectively check email, calendar, multiple project manager systems, my crm, and even modify my web sites from my phone or that so convent iPad. No I’m working all the time!! I’ve lost all my excuses!

Well, at least we’re all making more money now that we’re productive! Damn u Apple for making success so easy! I work for the challenges!

Insisting on quality and reliability? How odd!

  9. > Then came iPad, where Apple’s arrogantly arrogant take on arrogance was laid bare for all to see.

Pretty funny stuff. I wish more companies were as “arrogant” as Apple.

  10. Absolutely brilliant, heard AAPL is buying up all the 5″ & 7″ touch displays they can get their hands on…. Also heard AAPL is deep in AI research. Wonder what were are going to see from this most arrogant, innovative, non-status quo corp…. such pure unmitigated gall to step outside the norm… Steve Jobs should be ashamed, making all these terribly useful, stellar personal electronics. And defying death in the process.

‘Ye who dies with the most personal electronics, is the winner..”

Yes, I am a long time AAPL share holder….. Steve has made me sooooo much money the past few years….

All you whiners out there can bad mouth AAPL all you want, I’m laughing all the way to the bank…..

  11. “certain critics quickly concluded that Apple was acting like its usual arrogant self…”

    I couldn’t agree LESS.

Arrogant = Adobe lying to the world about it’s failed Flash technology in the face of Apple’s facts to the contrary.

Arrogant = Smartphone companies lying to the world about their superiority in antenna technology in the face of Apple’s facts to the contrary.

Sorry folks: Speaking FACT to FAIL does NOT constitute ‘arrogance’.

It’s ALL THE OTHER companies who are arrogant by SELLING CRAP to their customers, calling it ‘innovative’.

Customers have caught on. Thus Apple’s ascendance. DEAL WITH IT.

  13. Great stuff! And thanks for helping me discover a great blog that I didn’t know about. Ken Segall is a very intelligent writer and hits on everything about marketing and branding that interests me.
