“A reader sent us a link to an iLife ’10 for Dummies book on Amazon France,” Michael Grothaus reports for TUAW. “The book is set for release on September 23rd, suggesting an updated iLife software release on or around that date.”
“One thing that does make sense if the iLife ’10 for Dummies book is real, is that Apple would start targeting an iLife update in time for back-to-school sales to give added value to those students buying a new Mac,” Grothaus reports.

Little late isn’t it?
2011 is around the corner.
Cloud revised iLife.
I’d like to see HTML in iWeb
what about iwork? isn’t that due for an update?
@pcharles
If you want to see HTML in iWeb, you’re using the wrong application. iWeb is about using templates and having a local database of content which can be pushed to a website.
You can edit and create those templates using HTML, but if you want to HTML edit web pages, this isn’t the right app to use.
iWeb isn’t even well suited for generating web pages that you can then tweak by editing the HTML, since iWeb won’t bring those changes back into the app. You end up overwriting the changes.
Apple would either need to re-work iWeb in a major way or provide another app. I doubt that they’d re-work iWeb since its main purpose was to abstract the HTML code from the production process, and it seems to work well for the people who use it.
If only there was Apple participation at Macworld. We would be guaranteed that there would be an iWork and iLife update. “one more thing”. We have updated iLife and are calling it iLife 2011!! Now here’s Phil Schiller!!
Could be the iLife software is ready for the Magic Tablet that Apple is about to ship. If you want to use the multi gesture routines in it you need the new Magic Tablet next to your keyboard on your desk. How about when you are across the room looking at your Mac mini / HDTV an you want to use iLife on the big screen? Are you all seeing this yet? What are you getting for Christmas (or your end of year holiday)? I see some Magic Tablet in your stockings.
No way will it be called 2010. If it comes out in September it’ll be called iLife 2011 for sure.
How about an iMovie overhaul that actually let’s you make high quality DVDs. I know, Steve says we don’t need DVD but he doesn’t control me life and never will.
If he was honest in his claim that he loves his ‘users’ then he would provide means to produce hi quality DVDs.
iWeb needs to have alot more web features.
Things like optimisation for search engines, e.g google analytics built-in.
Also needs things like drop down menus, more social media features and flexibility etc
I’ve got HD home movies. How am I supposed to send those to family?
MobileMe allows you to post higher than DVD quality video to your online gallery. This is a great way to share HD video.
You’re right need this …
Trying to make a basic dvd on a mac sucks ..
There should be a command centre for copying, burning etc .. etc..
Instead .. I have to go to third party software to make any sense out of it.
Apple
I have hundreds of hours of digitized HD video. Dropped DVDs a few years back; use YouTube.
Far more versatile.
“hi quality DVDs” means more than using iMovie. iMovie isn’t intended for “hi quality DVDs”. Use FCE or FCPro.
you get what you pay for.
When is APPLE WORKS going to be updated? I’ve been waiting a long time.
Magic Word: past (no kidding)
I forget who was saying this (probably Jon Gruber) but when people were asking why iChat hadn’t been updated to support Facetime, he pointed out that with the exception of iTunes and Safari (both free and also made for PCs) that Apple only updates all of these apps when iLife itself updates, probably so as not to dilute its marketable feature list, so in other words …
Look for the new iLife iChat to support Facetime video chatting with iPhone 4!
Could it be that “iWork.com” will be going LIVE and iLife’09 simply does not have the links for it? Quick and easy publishing for the rest of us!
I’m with pcharles … iWeb needs at least a limited ability to poke some HTML code in … somewhere. That said, the core concept behind iWeb is the ability to make very pretty web sites without having to learn how to code HTML, CSS, Java (any) or the like. Just because you CAN does not mean you MUST. Not mutually exclusive.
it history proves…. Apple will announce some kind of mac even in mid august, ipods in september. Mac events have been used as a ground for introducing software before. The mac pro is in dire need for upgrade, physically and internally. new pro products too, like that bluetooth trackpad. Books usually come out a two or three weeks after a product is launched so this makes sense. Just going by history not throwing rumors.
@DLMeyer: Not sure I get what you mean, there already is an iwork.com, and I would use it frequently if access wasn’t blocked to it where I would actually need it.
I hope Garageband gets a bit of an overhaul. It needs to be better optimised to work on less powerful machines (when working with big projects on my Mac Mini, it starts to crawl a bit), and there’s some features that it’s long overdue. Oh and there’s a really annoying bug that’s been there for at least three years now.
Also, more support for Magic Mouse gestures throughout iLife would be much appreciated. Love my Magic Mouse, but the touch gestures are sorely under-utilised.
It’s time for iWork and iLife to move to 64bit.
Would like to see iWeb add some cool features (meta tags, etc.). Just hope the new version doesn’t make all my extra templates stop working!
@DWJ – AppleWorks is EOL, for several years now. It’s too bad, because it was the superior app that gave much of the basic (non-media) functionality people need a computer for. IMHO, iWorks is too far into eye candy and too far away from user control of the product.
AppleWorks for the iPad would positively kill.
@ lurker
> AppleWorks for the iPad would positively kill.
iWork + Bento + graphics app of your choice = AppleWorks for iPad
Hope we’ll get a lot of new features like forms, databases, drop down menus and much quicker and smaller code.
