Enterprising iPhone 4 camper rents out first spot in line outside Apple’s flagship San Fran store

Invisible Shield for Apple iPhone 4!“The iPhone 4 won’t officially show up in stores until Thursday, but as has become a tradition, some of the more eager have gotten in line days ahead of time,” Erica Ogg reports for CNET.

“Chris Bank, 24, camped out in a tent with a friend on Stockton Street Monday night in order to secure the first two spaces in line,” Ogg reports. “He says he’s never waited in line before for any gadget, but that this iPhone release is special. ‘I’m finally switching!’ he said Tuesday, holding up his BlackBerry.”

MacDailyNews Take: Have a nice evening PALM, er… RIM.

Ogg continues, “Bank is trying to gather as much attention as he can by Twittering about his exploits live, but that’s also because he has something to sell. Bank has two spots and is trying to rent out the first spot in line along with his tent on Airbnb.com for $200. The highest bidder has the chance to be one of the first to get the iPhone at the Stockton Street store on Thursday morning–and the chance to get photographed by the media, which will swarm him.”

  1. I’ll walk into an Apple Store on Friday and pick one up with no line and no stupid media person asking me, “So how does it feel not to have showered for a week so you can get greasy fingerprints all over your new iPhone?”

In the meantime, I’ll enjoy iOS 4 on my 3GS.

  2. So I’m 50 years old and have stood in line for three different Apple storws openings as well as for 2 iphones and my iPad. And I actually choose to pick up my iPhone 4 because of the positive experience I have had doing the previous.
    I’m kinda worried that I am a bit screwed up, but I just can’t not do this ! ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”grin” style=”border:0;” />
See you in Tacoma in the early hours Thursday.
Enjoy it all, it ain’t the destination it’s the journey, and a few side trips on the way

  3. I was just at the Upper West Side Apple Store and a guy had his iPhone 4. 4 Store employees (and me) surrounded the poor bastard itching for a peek.

I won’t wait in line for anything, but I WILL get me one-a them iPhone 4’s!!!

  4. even it’s been a tradition for a long time, I don’t do that stupid. phone is just phone, mac is just mac to me just like other products. if you don’t want to get a line, why don’t you pre-order through online early if you are so eager to get that freaking phone? then you just will go to store opening day without getting a line. I think that people’s behavior is stupid.
