“Verizon Wireless is cutting prices for Palm’s Pre Plus and Pixi Plus smart phones,” The Associated Press reports.
“The carrier is also offering access to a Wi-Fi service that lets the phones deliver free [though limited to 5GB of data per month] Internet access to other kinds of devices — such as Apple’s iPad,” AP reports.
“Verizon spokeswoman Brenda Raney said Thursday that Verizon is selling Palm’s Pre Plus for $50, down from $150,” AP reports. “The Pixi Plus now goes for $30, down from $80. Both require two-year contracts.”
Full article here.
MacDailyNews Take: Both also require the impossibly delusional ability to imagine Palm still being in business by the time your ill-considered contract expires. Be happy. Get an iPhone.
And they will probably do a 2-for-1 with these as well.
R2 needs to hurry up and buy all of their inventory. If one falls apart in a few months ( It will since its a POS build ), he can continue to play Pandora while he surfs for Porn and go PooPee at the same time. Amazing!

Clearance to make room for the iPhone 4G
Trying to clear stock, eh?!
Wow, is this like a blue light sale @ Kmart, or what? @ $30, why even bother — just give ’em away!
“Why would we price ‘Pre’ less than iPhone when we have a significantly better product?” – Palm CEO Ed Colligan, January 10, 2009
Does MDN have any other adjectives besides “beleaguered”?
@Phil:
No.
@Phil: Yes, “Totally Irrelevant and F*cked Palm”
Do I recall correctly, wasn’t the Palm Pre initial price $299, but with a $100 rebate coupon ?
Hmmm… the story I read, said those were 2 for 1 deals, so 2 Pre Pluses for $50, and 2 Pixis for $30.
It gets worse!!
They’ll pay you to take a Pixi. Really…

Sign up for a Palm Pixi Plus at Walmart on a 2 yr contract and THEY’LL GIVE YOU A $50 gift card.
Palm smells of desperation. The once (back in the late 90’s) great company is now hanging on with it’s nails.
Buy one get one free. Grocery chains are pretty sucessful at this!
I just crapped a Palm Pixi. Yes, it was painful.
Hmm buy a pre, get a phone and a 3g wifi hotspot to support a iPad. Interesting idea.
$30. Wow, that is cheap. Verizon probably paid more, but obviously wants to sell what they have left in inventory before it’s too late.
It’s too bad in a way… WebOS isn’t bad and had a lot of potential- Palm just handled it all wrong. From the “iPhone killer” PR bullshit, to the iTunes leaching to the cheap plastic screens to the choice of Sprint, etc., etc. The Pre’ handled correctly- could have been a descent seller. Not the next iPhone but it didn’t have to be.
It could have actually made money for Palm and kept some people employed. A couple of friends of mine have Pre’s. They like them- they are the type of people that didn’t want a Blackberry but felt more comfortable with a real keyboard- so the Pre’ was their choice. Hey- to each his / her own.
Regardless- Palm is all but finished and I hope, for the sake of people that work at Palm (not management)- a descent company buys them out. However buys them needs to stop with the iPhone killer crap and just make a reliable device and see what happens.
@Phil
If you followed Apple back in the mid-nineties into the early 00s, the pundits and observers almost always used the term “beleaguered” preceding the name Apple, until it was as if a single term. Even when the company had a $B in the bank, no debt, and cool new products, they kept up with the beleaguered thing, like they were all laughing about Apple being on the way out, and how easy it was for others to copy their ideas.
@ILuvMyMacs
Ironic you said, “a descent company buys them out”
descent = on the way down.
decent = good
Anyone who wants or needs a “real” keyboard is afraid to try anything new.
@RicMac
Thanks for the correction- It was decent of you to point that out.

I only noticed because it was funny!
@m159
Thanks for the history lesson concerning the word “beleaguered.” It is honestly appreciated.
But enough MDN with this f***ing word!
WI-FI and limited?
LOL… WiFi-data cost nothing to produce compared with Cell-data.
