    > Does this mean that ipads could actually arrive early now?

A previous story from yesterday said some pre-order customers were reporting their iPads as being shipped. So it seems probable many will receive their iPads before April 3rd.

  2. “What is still missing is a simple feature.

    Make a playlist of playlists!!!!!!!”

How about a simplified version of iTunes for those of us who use it every day, yet have actual lives that do not totally revolve around our musical collections?

It is becoming one of the most complex “dogs breakfast” interfaces that I have ever seen. If you need a manual or an FAQ to understand it, don’t do it.

Almost becoming Windows-like , or Office like. Not the Mac way.

  3. My first iPad is in Kentucky, got there at 11 EST today. But I expect that UPS has been told to hold it until Saturday if it gets to Cupertino early. I believe Apple always has them held until the announced date. I hope I am wrong, we have a trip scheduled Sunday and would like the iPad as soon as possible of course. 4 days and I will be sitting on the curb waiting.

    > Make a playlist of playlists!!!!!!!

You can do that (for a while now). In iTunes,

Menu Bar -> File -> New Playlist Folder

A “folder” appears in iTunes sidebar under PLAYLISTS. You can add playlists to the folder (including existing playlists). You can even put a playlist folder inside a playlist folder to build a deeper hierarchy.

  5. @kenh: So, what you’re saying is that Apple should strip everything out of iTunes except the ability to play songs just because you don’t use some of the features? And as for it being complex, I personally find it a breeze to use. If you don’t use a feature, don’t touch it, just ignore it. It simply being there isn’t doing you any harm.

Oh, and making playlists isn’t really complicated at all. Press +, drag songs. It would be the same for the process Ubermac describes.

I said exactly what I said. Anytime someone says “what you are actually saying is” whether it is computers or politics, I usually ignore it, or at least discount it.

How about an app that allows us to drag and drop features into a mini_app that works for each of us.

Apple is capable of it. And it would be revolutionary, sort of back to the 1984 Mac commercial.

When you try to be all things to all people, you don’t do well with anything. That is basic design.

The Mac way has always been that the computer adapts to the user, not the other way around.

    Back to the future.

  7. @kenh: Sorry if that came across as a personal attack. I misunderstood, I thought you meant Apple should adjust the current iTunes.

You are right, Apple is capable of it, and a ‘light’ iTunes isn’t actually a bad idea, especially for less affluent computer users. However, I would imagine that the demand for a stripped out iTunes just isn’t there.

    …Although I do stand by what I said about iTunes not being overly complicated. ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”smile” style=”border:0;” />

  8. @ Peter Frank –

I’m not noticing any sluggishness on either Mac using iTunes 9.1.

I did however notice some new icons for iPhone and AppleTVs in their respective summary pages. At least I think they’re new. Something looks different about the whole summary page. The icons look bigger, the layout looks different too.

  9. If I’m not mistaken, 3 April is a Saturday. UPS does NOT deliver ground shipments on Saturday.

On weekdays, the truck often arrives in the evening (likely trying to improve his chances of finding someone home to pick up the package). I wouldn’t be surprised that most of you who are tracking via UPS receive theirs on Friday evening.

Otherwise, you’ll have to wait ’till Monday…

  10. No performance updates?
Thats what iTunes really needs. I got so many entries in iTunes it takes 5 minutes for my iTunes to start and playing anything in QuickTime while downloading anything is impossible because it freezes up every 7 seconds. I always have to play video in VLC. Browsing iTunes wirh this many fules us a pain, it always lags and freezes up for a few seconds all the time. iTunes also has a very funny way of freezing if i download an App and at the same time does anything else in iTunes. I have to kill the iTunes process and start the program again… This freezing up thing while downloading Apps had been going on for a long time now and it starts to get very irritating. It seem to hang when i click at something else at the exact moment the App is done downloading… I think Apple should adress things like this before adding useles stuff like Geniues Mixes…

    no offense taken

I don’t know many iTunes users who use anywhere near the full capabilities of iTunes as it is. Sort of like Microsoft Office, by survey, most users use about 10% of the features.

I would like customizable apps, I use iTunes mostly to play podcasts, some of which I record myself for learning functions and some music.

I can ignore all of the other things, it just irritates me to have to deal with all the different folders.

Sort of like minimalist chopper motorcycles, there is an artistic beauty to them.

Isn’t that the same as dragging one playlist onto another? I believe you can also create a smart playlist that does something similar.

  13. @Predrag
I believe UPS does deliver on Saturdays, but you have to pay extra for that. Not in all Zip Codes but in most urban areas. I am pretty sure Apple understands that and has paid extra for saturday delivery or they would have just made it Monday the 5th. My status and the other four people I know who preordered all show “by Apr 3.” I would be happy to get it friday however.
