TheStreet’s Moritz: Apple will benefit from iPad’s ‘theft factor’

Apple Online StoreIn a “report” that take stupidity to new heights – or lows (Mariana Trench lows) – TheStreet.com’s Scott Moritz “analyzes” the situation and comes up with this:

Apple’s iPad will suffer from the “theft factor” and Apples’ unintended gain could be repeat buyers replacing their stolen units. “You feel bad for the rich kids and the trendy types who lost this thing, you know, the only thing worse for them from the actual theft of it, is now they don’t have anything to flash around, so I think they’ll be running back to buy additional iPads. I think this might be kind of an unintended consequence and a good thing for Apple – they’ll be able to sell, you know, they’ll be a second wave of of purchases.”

No, we’re not kidding. No, this isn’t an early April Fool’s joke. Apparently, Scott really is that stupid or this is a failed Funny Or Die skit or something.

The short (1:42) video, which is so stupid that you can’t take your eyes off it, is here.

  1. I must be one of the rich kids he’s talking about. I wear jeans, sneakers, and a sweatshirt to work in my office. Only problem is I’m 62. Moritz must have been to poor kid in high school who got chosen last for team sports. His resentment and frustration comes out all too often. I don’t need an iPad to flash around. I’ll put my six figure income up against his any time.

  2. Make that:

I would jail the mother for instigation and incitement to theft.

He should be fired and disciplined harshly for reckless abusive and irresponsible reporting.

If he has kids , he should be charged with endangering them, by making them a target to enraged readers.

  3. LoJack for ipad??? Some type of command sent to the stolen ipad if that renders it inoperative. Similar to too many attempts to unlock?

BTW, I already ordered a replacement for my soon to be stolen ipad. Just in case…

  4. Hey, he forgot about all the replacements people will buy due to earthquakes. In a quake it would be inevitable that they’ll slide off the table and get busted. Think of all the resales Apple would get from that!!

(Note: I’m not the originator of the quake damage scenario to Apple’s products.)

  5. Well I suppose he’s right, there WILL be a very small percentage of people who have their iPad stolen and so they buy another one. But it certainly won’t be enough to have any real positive effect for Apple. And what an asinine thing to ‘report’ on. How does anybody get paid for doing that??
