CNBC’s Goldman: Why Motorola might want to buy Palm

“Palm’s a mess. Motorola is desperately trying to recapture relevance,” Jim Goldman writes for CNBC. “Apple is out there litigiously lurking, going after HTC first, but likely setting the table for a broader attack on all things Android Operating System – based, and ultimately maybe Google itself.”

“Companies like Motorola and Palm risk evaporating into the competitive ether,” Goldman writes. “Unless they come together.”

Goldman writes, “I’m not suggesting that a Palm/Motorola tie-up would mount any kind of meaningful challenge to Apple and RIM. But with strength in numbers and critical mass so important in the smart phone arena today, a Palm/Motorola team could at least get decidedly larger crumbs than the two separately are scrounging for today.”

MacDailyNews Take: In his full article, Goldman seem to assume that Apple would never protect their patented intellectual property as it relates to Palm’s webOS. We wouldn’t be so quick to make such an assumption, especially if another company tried to snatch it up and incorporate it into their own mobile device plans.
