“Current iPad production levels are indeed low, claims Think Equity’s Vijay Rakesh,” MacNN reports.
“The analyst cites checks with Taiwanese manufacturers, which suggest ‘some minor delays’ in ramping up production for the tablet
“A mere 200,000 to 250,000 iPads per month are said to be possible at the moment, and production may not be able to hit 800,000 to 1 million units a month until at least April,” MacNN reports. “‘We believe this is just a minor hiccup in a longer-term entirely new revenue stream and product roadmap for AAPL,’ says Rakesh.”

I think Apple is getting analysts to rush this rumour out so that the “while stocks last” queues form fast. They evidently have some great gifts to hand out to the waiting purchasers that they really must get rid of!
BS FUD…
If there is stock, I think the release will be bigger than the iPhone , I bought one iPhone at release, but plan on three iPads. And I’m a fan boy, already used Macs, what about allvthe converts with iPhones !
What an idiot… It’s called playing it safe (and keeping the availability intentionally constrained) until the models with 3G wireless go into full production. Apple doesn’t want all the early adopters to get the first available iPad, when many of them would get the more expensive (higher profit) models that have 3G capability.
Please chant with me:

There’s no way Apple would have only 250K iPads the day of release. They’ll sell that many in the first hour.
Apple waits until they can produce enough product before announcing a release date. There was a time when they wouldn’t have enough and suffer major backlash.
Why do these announcements smell of FUD underwritten by _____________?
It almost doesn’t matter how many Apple produces to seed inventory for the initial release – they will sell out. Millions of these things will be sold in 2010. My guess is 10 million.
“Demand” on day one could be in the millions. Maybe it is not such a bad idea to start getting people ready for the fact that millions will not be available on day one?
IF this is true, it could explain why Apple has not announced pre-ordering. If next week they start taking pre-orders, that would imply they have plenty of product.
10-12 million in calendar year 2010
How many months have they been making them? If more than 1 they will have more than 250 thousand. April is only days away so they should be fine. They will probably sell out quickly if they go worldwide on Day 1.
I agree.
