Ex-Microsoft, Mozilla security chief hired by Apple

Apple Online Store“Former Mozilla security chief Window Snyder has been hired by Apple,” Robert McMillan reports for IDG News Service. “Snyder started her new job Monday, where she’s now working as a senior security product manager…”

Snyder “previously had worked as a security strategist at Microsoft where she managed the company’s relationships with security consultants and had worked on the Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 operating systems,” McMillan reports.

McMillan reports, “Snyder took a job with Mozilla in 2006 and was credited with professionalizing the Firefox security response team… She left Mozilla in late 2008, and worked as a consultant over the past year.”

MacDailyNews Note: Synder’s full name is Mwende Window Snyder. At least her parents left off the “s.”

“I know an out of work IT guy who works part time Security Guard at Toys R Us maybe he could land a job at Apple…WTF…Al Gore and that chick from Avon on the board of directors and now this…As they say it’s not what you know, it’s who you know! Rethinking my Apple Stock position?”

Rethink your position in the human race! Your problem with her is that she isn’t a lilly white male? Grow up.

  2. @RicMac
I think you are the one who needs to grow up!
No one said one thing about anyone’s race or sex.

It has to do with coming from Microsoft where Security is an unknown abstract. Nothing more.
BTW most comments here are meant to be in jest and to make fun of the competition or lack of it. Lighten Up!

  3. For sure, Apple didn’t hire this specialist because they just wanted to be sure everything is OK – No, there’s problems, probably really big ones, that secretive Jobs-led Cupertino won’t tell us about.

I just hope this gal can resolve them before my ID is stolen and bank account cleaned out as a result of invasion into one of my Macs or its OS or Safari or MobileMe or other things that are suppose to be immune from such attacks.

Doesn’t it gall you just a little to be denied critical information about the use of your Macs after investing many years of your life, tens of thousands of dollars in their products, and even more in AAPL?

  4. Wow, it must be romper room children’s hour – how can you all be such racist idiots? Racism is a sign of a weak mind, one that cannot learn and accept knowledge from outside itself. Good luck with your future endeavors.

  5. @ Hey C1

First, get your own name. I’m already using mine.

Second, my investment in Apple products + AAPL stock is far less than the profits I have made from same, so forgive me if I’m not worried so much.

Third, post a real thought, rather than raving jibberish, and people might take you seriously.

  6. @ Cubert,
Exactly, a LOT of experience. Also, maybe while getting that experience she may have found a reason for not still working at M$. I think we can trust that Window was hired on good grounds. And I agree with ChrissyOne, a very nicely done blog with good photos. But I do wonder if the URL “dec.net” has a history behind it (like the history of her parents)?

    Anyhow, all the best, Window.

  7. Al Gore “”Perhaps he’s not a good politician”? Received the most votes overall in 2000, and won the most votes in Florida in that election, once upon a time that was an important criterion in elections. Maybe not the most popular guy in the room, but his nerd cred is unassailable. His stance on the environment is still supported by climate scientists, who might know more about that subject than Hannity or draft-dodger and drug abuser Limbaugh. Finally, Steve Jobs might have a better notion of who contributes more to the board’s expertise than any poster on this forum.

    “Windows Nyder” Now that’s funny.

You can’t seriously be suggesting that Microsoft is unaware of, or unfocused on, security issues? It would be interesting to find out how often security is debated at senior level within MS. Apple used the security issue to great effect in their early ads – and in their first anti-Vista ads. I would imagine there is not a single person in Microsoft who is not acutely aware of the damage that continual breaches of Windows security has had, and continues to have, on market perception.

Perhaps your post was badly constructed – if you are going to publicly attack the reputation of a professional you should take more care to provide evidence and avoid the risk of your comments being interpreted as motivated by rascism.

MDN: In fairness to the individual concerned here, I feel this post should be removed.

I suspect you are not across the scientific evidence for global warming. Snow storms in the US are entirely compatible with the projections for more extreme weather events. Similarly extreme events are occurring all around the world. If you add energy to any system which contains imbalances (and weather systems all contain imbalances) then those systems tend to oscillate with increasing violence.

I suspect those that are quick to condemn Al Gore are, in fact, rejecting the notion that they may have to rein in their excessive energy consumption. It is interesting to note that Al Gore’s international reputation is as high as ever. Non-Americans are as exposed to his views as Americans – and you won’t find educated people in other parts of the world dismissing his as a fraud…

There is a very reputable science journal, published weekly in the UK. New Scientist. Quality journalism is in short supply in the USA – for a less idealogical and more balanced view on global warming, have a look at http://www.newscientist.com.

Aw, don’t go away today. I’m stuck at home, snowed in, and all there left is grading tests or crazy baiting. I bet you a beer I can bob in and get one faster than you…
