“The most popular apps in the App Store aren’t always the best,” Tom Kaneshige writes for InfoWorld.
MacDailyNews Take: Hey, just like operating systems in Best Buy and hamburgers in restaurants!
Kaneshige continues, “Here are six cool apps you might not have heard about — and why they haven’t broken into the big time yet.”
InfoWorld’s Six Great iPhone Apps Flying Under the Radar:
• The Extraordinaires
• Preschool Adventure
• i.TV
• HotelPal
• What to Expect
• SBSettings (requires jailbreaking iPhone)

SBSetting ftw
My top 6 you may not know about:
1. WhatsApp (Free texting between iPhones)
2. ReelDirector (Video editing)
3. Recorder (Record iPhone conversations)
4. Grocery IQ (Grocery List Sharing between iPhones)
5. Sportacular (Great chat feature)
6. Words with Friends (Best Scrabble game on the store)
AppAddiction: Love both GroceryIQ & Sportacular, but wish there was a grocery app that had a desktop app so I could do my list on my computer & sync to iPhone/iPod Touch.
@ justme2
Grocery Gadget allows you to sync the shopping lists on multiple iPhones as well as do the list on a computer via their website.

@AppAddiction
Grocery IQ has recently “updated” and now is littered with “suggested coupons” read: ads. Very annoying.
Tower Madness Zero
Yeah… Words With Friends is great but lately the performance has been horrible (talking to the server takes forever). If anyone wants to play, my username is TheRealHazMatt.
Here’s a great word game you’ve never heard of: Deduce

I’ve been using iTV for a year now. Stopped looking at others when I came across this gem.
I thought their latest update did away with theater listings for a movie, but it’s still there, just one extra click.
What to Expect? The Extraordinaires? Preschool Adventure?
Yea, this guy has kids.
THE killer app—a Mac (or PC) in your pocket! And on iPad it will be awesome.
I use the VNC version so I can’t speak about the other ones. But Jaadu VNC is great.
It annoys me the way the AppStore lists the most popular apps. Many of them have poor user ratings. For example, on the current Top 25 paid apps,#11 is1&1;/2 stars.
So I don’t want popular, I want a list that shows top-rated. And they could easily rate it so an app with 4 star rating and 1000 votes, would appear higher than an app with 4 stars but only 50 votes.
MW: Able – as in surely Apple is able to do this.
@justme2
SplashShopper does what you want. iPhone app and Desktop app that sync. I use it for grocery lists. Also packing/travel lists and that sort of thing.
I’ve been using splash since the dark days of Palm, so I might just be used to it, or maybe it’s as good as I think it is.
MDN MW: “issue” — I have many
Grocery IQ claims that they have sync, in reality I never made it work!
