China prefers Apple over Google

“China snubbed Google but picked Apple when it decided to divert some of its $300 billion investment fund into U.S. stocks,” Glenn Hall reports for TheStreet. “Anyone surprised? Could it possibly have anything to do with Google’s threat to leave China over a dispute about censorship, hacking, etc?”

“We could get up in arms about China buying up America, but that’s yesterday’s news,” Hall writes. “Why shouldn’t the Chinese invest in the U.S.? Let’s take it as a sign of respect that they like what they see here — at least as far as investments go.”

“So let’s review what the Chinese government considers good investments in America,” Hall reports. “There’s Coca-Cola and Johnson & Johnson (two of Warren Buffett’s favorites) and China also put some cash in big banks, including Morgan Stanley, Citigroup and Bank of America.”

CIC also owns a $6.3-million stake in computer and hand-held device maker Apple Inc. [roughly 32,000 shares], and a $4.3-million interest in News Corp., publisher of The Wall Street Journal and owner of Fox News. The filing also revealed for the first time that CIC owns a $14.3-million interest in troubled U.S. insurer American International Group Inc.”

  1. it’s like ‘security’: you’re coming to a sad realization, cancel or allow…except there is no cancel. Unfortunately US power is no longer what it was, particularly economically. Can’t have cheap prices and high wages in manufacturing: consumers won’t allow it. So when you stop creating wealth and merely become a nation that moves it around, then you have to expect those who do manufacture and generate wealth to start buying you up. Sad but true…Running an enormous trade deficit with China -> they’re coming to buy you up like the japanese did in the late 80’s…welcome to the real world!

Nixon didn’t do wrong by opening dialogue with China. The other presidents, Bush senior & junior and Clinton, did do wrong by giving away the farm. I fault this current president because of his shameless lying during the campaign. The opponent didn’t promise as much because delivering on so much would be impossible. I’m sure Obama’s opponents figured the public would realize that Obama was promising so much to the point of absurdity. Unfortunately, the public bought it all. This president and all our leaders should somehow be held accountable to campaign promises. They should have a stake in our future, something precious
to lose if they don’t deliver. Otherwise, more politicians will follow example and will win elections by promising a zillion, empty impossibilities.

  4. Also, all leaders and their families should be barred from owning offshore accounts. If allowed such holdings, they should at least be forced to disclose their offshore accounts. We should be able to monitor these accounts before, during, and after their term in office.

  6. Somebody teach mac_kid to use punctuation. I don’t even bother to read posts that are one long run-on sentence. (Faulkner is bad enough ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”smirk” style=”border:0;” />

  7. @RicMac “People, people, people, are we forgetting ….?
    We’re computer nerds, not politicians.”

No we are not politicians, but it’s PASSION my friend. And it’s FUN!

I am in no way going to convince someone on the left to see George Bush as a great President and Sarah Palin as a potentially great President. Now the other side would say she is inept, has to write things on her hand, she’s unqualified, a quitter from her Governor’s job, etc. But she would be perfect because we already have in Obama an inept, can’t speak intelligently without a tele-prompter or apparently with a tele-prompter, Mr. Corpse-Man himself, Mr. vote present in the IL. senate, didn’t even finish his first US Senate term and took all his 6 days experience, NONE of which was executive, ran on Hope and Change and all we got was Hoax and Blame from this “Jimmy Carter Stupid” individual! Not to mention this man child thin skin dweeb could not stand in Palin’s shoes or pumps for one day… Talk about Fox News viewers as Lemmings , just Google ‘Obama Corpseman’ and ‘Palin Hand’ or his 657,000 results versus her 17,500,000!

Yeah there is real objectivity over there at CBS, NBC, ABC, PBS, CNN, MSNBC, NYT, LA TIMES, etc., etc!

So the other side currently has their inept person in office. If our side got our inept person, Palin, in office, then both of them being inept and unqualified, would leave it to just political philosophy. His Marxist “spread the wealth via government intervention” to her “government get out of the way to allow an individual’s potential to gain wealth”. Then we can see once and for all, who’s political philosophy works!

  8. Hey First 2010, Then 2012, talk is cheap, action is where it is at.

When it comes to American patriotism, it’s the patriot ACT.

When it comes to American security, it’s bombs away… don’t let not having bombs stop ya, use da plane boss da plane.

When it comes to American capitalism, bail out the banks, invade for oil

When it comes to hard working, ordinary American citizens, they buy what’s on special… from China. Great deals

  9. What ‘Maul’ said.

Why is it that “God’s” special pet can’t figure out the balance of nature.

FFS, even industrialist Henry Ford believed in the middle-class. He, for his own self-interest, understood that if only 2% of the population could afford to buy his cars — then he would most certainly sell very few.

    He helped society, help him. ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”wink” style=”border:0;” />
